I am requiring accurate information regarding the size of the Warhammer Fantasy World ...

From Karak Varn to Zhufbar in 4th edition Dwarfs Armies book it seems to me to be about 150 kilometres or 100 miles ... yet to look at the distance compared to scale of planet it seems that the world of warhammer fantasy is a size akin to our Earths Moon ...

I would like to please know from somebody with an older (1st-3rd) map - how far is it from Karak Varn to Zhufbar please? Also i want to know precisely when the information that the world of warhammer fantasy is twice the size of our Earth first was shared (in which edition was Warhammer Fantasy?) - and yes ... i am after to the "newhammer" distance from Karak Varn to Zhufbar exactly...

I have only ever seen that mentioned online.

    Also

(and this is enormously important therefore the extra big letters...)

There are at least three*** different ways a planet could be “twice the size of Earth”. Each possibility leads to a different mathematical answer... ...and I have never seen anyone specify which parameter they meant.

    ***Here are the three:
    1. Surface area is double that of Earth
    2. Volume is double that of Earth
    3. Diameter is double that of Earth

Shouldnt they all be equal? (Assuming the inner lava goo section and the metally rocky core and the muddy hot lava goo beneath the tectonics are all being doubled) I dont mean the density alone ... literally - the surface area and inner areas too ...

Physics aside ... do you have a map book for the km distance from Karak Varn to Zhufbar? And which edition superplease...

    Nope. Nope, nope, nope, No.

Check out the link I posted. Google will do the maths for you.

Missing from this map (and every other Warhammer map I can remember seeing) is a scale bar.

    Also, the poles are missing.
Also, the Ocean between Cathay and Lustria is not shown in its entirety.

They have (carefully? sloppily?) avoided giving any information that could be used to determine how big the planet is.

Can you post a picture of what you looked at to get those 100-150 mile figures? Was it a map?

This is fourth edition dwarf armies book from 1993.

It states that Karak Varn and Zhufbar are "a days trek" away from one another ... here i figure they mean hardy dwarves doing 6 kilometre and hour for 24 hours (something beyond almost all people) ... this journey might include some jogging to be achieved ...(i keep mentioning Zhufbar and Karak Varn as i used this as an example ... another could be Loren which appears to be about 300 by 500 kilometres in size)...

Thanks for posting that. Wish I could zoom on it better. Do both maps share the same scale bar? (I see one in the bottom left corner of the bottom map.)

    There that’s better.

Varn and Zhufbar look like they are 200 miles apart by the scale in the bottom left corner. Sounds like to me the fluff writer got it thoroughly wrong....art department and writing staff were not double checking each other.

How wide is your 4th Edition map according to that scale? 1500 Miles of territory? more?

I found a good big map with that same 500 mile scale bar:

Perhaps it is the angle of the photo effecting your guesstimate but i assure you the outer edges of the Holds are 150km to 100 miles apart ... the photo doesnt show the entire map but the section it shows is about 2000 miles or so from east to west ... both maps use the scale bar i assume - the map "leaks" over the central fold in the armies book as you can see ... it is meant to be indicator for the whole planet ...

No other editions beside 4th Armies Books have maps with measured scales of distance displayed?

I am endevouring the calculate the planet and as this is the only scale i have i am going to use it ... it seems rare that GW give stats like this hey?

They went through many arguments and legal issues so perhaps this is a failed concept at some time ... i find it handy and interesting though as it helps me imagine the Warhammer World as a whole...

OK, I believe you. Mostly we are measuring differently, but photo distortion contributed.

I draw a tiny imaginary red dot at the center of each Anvil Symbol, then I eyeball the distance between the dots. Those Anvils are too big to be measuring nearest edge-to-nearest edge. ;)

Well yes indeed, i was guesstimating with the assumption that the area nearabouts to Zhufbar (each of the holds) would be more or less the territory of those within the spot indicated upon the map ... (dwarf tunnels and the like...)

Ah well, i appreciate your help pendrake ... i have a bit more knowledge now ... cheers

No need, but thankyou. Apparently it is one point two million metres from the ocean to the start of the river reik ... that being 750 miles yes? This is information from a different group than this here, i will put up a photo when i get one of the map. It is 1st edition. Stay tuned pendrake :)
