Re: The Rise of Xaxlachaq - A Blog UPDATE: 12/23 Lookin' good so far! I really like the unit of Kroxies and skinks, it all comes together nicely... I enjoy the updates! Thanks! Iggy
Re: The Rise of Xaxlachaq - A Blog UPDATE: 12/23 Very nice looking unit! Can't wait to see the next project
Re: The Rise of Xaxlachaq - A Blog UPDATE: 12/23 All right, friends. So although I have been agonizing over the list a little, work continues on the stuff that probably isn't going to change. Today in Xaxlachaq, the Old Ones called for a spawning of Salamanders, and in true Xaxlachaq style, a cohort of specially-bred raptor-style Sallies were collected by the newly-spawned skink handlers and are ready for battle. I have about a billion old-school skinks laying around, and I was wondering what to do with them. Then it came to me: it doesn't really matter how handlers are armed because they're largely for show anyway. Perfect! So here's my first unit of Sallies, ready for battle: And here's a few pics of the individual Salamander pieces, so you can see what's going on a little better: So that's another unit nailed down. I have just started rigging up the skinks for the second large unit, so that will be the next project. Hopefully I can get it knocked out quickly. I'm setting a goal of one week. We'll see how long it actually ends up taking. Comments and such are, of course, always welcome.
Re: The Rise of Xaxlachaq - A Blog UPDATE: 1/4 Nice work! How did you get the fire effect on them? You're basing is really good as well.
Re: The Rise of Xaxlachaq - A Blog UPDATE: 1/4 The fire effect on those sallies is awesome! Nicely done and please keep us posted
Re: The Rise of Xaxlachaq - A Blog UPDATE: 1/4 Thanks, guys! The fire is just straight up green stuff over a paper clip. Looks really nice, but honestly, it's easy as pie to sculpt. Get a pair of tweezers and go to town. Mini-update: I was sitting here, waiting for an ink wash to dry, and I decided to knock out the design on the bases while I wait. It struck me as kind of a funny idea, so I banged it out, and I like how it turned out. It's a tiny bit silly, but once the skinks and Krox are on them, you'll barely be able to make out the design anyway, so it's kind of my own private funny. Anyway, how would a temple full of skinks depict the calling of the Comet of Cassandora? Maybe a little like this: Hee...
Re: The Rise of Xaxlachaq - A Blog UPDATE: 1/4 I like it. By the way, have you decided on how you are going to alter the list at all?
Re: The Rise of Xaxlachaq - A Blog UPDATE: 1/4 skux as painting, compared to my skinks ATM. Yours has a much professional look. keep up the great work!
Re: The Rise of Xaxlachaq - A Blog UPDATE: 1/23 All right. Update time. What has been happening in Xaxlachaq since we last talked? Well, first, I've finished my first character: the Skink Chief Ozumyotl. Although in the upcoming tournament, he'll be serving as a humble Terradon Brave, in the future (when I actually get to play at 2500 points), he's 155 points of badassery that can handle whole light units on his own (and murderizes war machine crews). Once I finished him, I turned to my little unit of Chameleon Skinks. Everyone kept telling me, "Drop the Stalker! Drop the Stalker!" Well, no. I made a modeling decision rather than a gaming one to keep the Stalker, because it allows me to use my all-time favorite sculpt in the whole Lizardmen army (which is hilarity, because there is literally no other way to use him but as a unit champ, because his equipment is ridiculous for a Chief). Anyway, here's that unit: I enjoyed painting this unit so much and they came out so well that it also solved my army list problem: I've taken out the two units of skirmish skinks and added in two more units identical to this one. I am giving up eight bodies to do so, but Chameleons are much more effective on the table at blowpiping, and as a bonus, they're going to help my army look super awesome. So now, having done that, I am actually much, much closer to completion than I thought. The two units of skirmish javelin guys are about to become a big block of Kroxiskinks (since I already have 20 painted, finishing that unit should be cake). That's next on the rigs, and then I'll start thinking about my Skink Priest. Comments and such, of course, are always welcome...
Re: The Rise of Xaxlachaq - A Blog UPDATE: 1/23 Wow! Very nice Chameleons. The paint job on the Hero is amazing, and I especially like the uses of the Turquoise on both Units. Me being a perfectionist I wouldn't have had the Terradon diving at such a low-angle, but I always kick myself for thinking like that.
Re: The Rise of Xaxlachaq - A Blog UPDATE: 1/23 you brought chameleons are you made of money apart from that they look great could you take a pic of your whole army
Re: The Rise of Xaxlachaq - A Blog UPDATE: 1/23 Just realised I should move this to painting logs. Now done.
Re: The Rise of Xaxlachaq - A Blog UPDATE: 1/23 All right. Guess I've been moved to Paint Logs. We'll see how many people check in with me now - I feel like the traffic in this part of the board is a lot less... Anyway, just a couple of mini-updates. First of all, it's -20F outside. No, I'm not making that up. There is no earthly reason for it to ever be this cold for any reason ever, and it's really super stupid. The upshot of that is, with no natural light to take pictures with, these pictures suck. I'll take better ones when it warms up. This is what I've been working on the past little bit. First, I knocked out this Skink Priest: Craptastic picture, I know, but you get the general idea. What's next? Oh, I dunno...here's a little sneak preview: I wonder what THAT'S gonna be...
Re: The Rise of Xaxlachaq - A Blog UPDATE: 2/1 Oh wow. Is that going to be a Slann palanquin? More like a throne. I'm definitely keen to see that finished off! Looks impressive so far. As for traffic in here, we shall see. I don't think you should see too much difference, and this section was only made because people requested it. If it turns out that not many people look here, would be easy to get rid of the section and move all threads back to the open painting forum.
