I'm curious to know how some of you folks come up with names for your Lizardmen. I know they have a heavy Aztec feel to them, but I've no clue how to go about actually thinking up names for my big bad scaley boys. I feel that if you can name them, you are more invested in doing well and keeping your army alive and successful.
More of Maya/Inca feel, but honestly they are similar either way. I haven't done so yet, but I plan on cranking open one of my Maya books and taking a variation of a deity or something.
Ah, well I'll admit that I don't know a whole lot about any of those cultures, Aztec was just the first name to spring to mind since I'd forgotten about the Incan and Mayan cultures. As far as the naming, what's the book that you plan to use, might try to rent it from the library, or at least a similar book of possible.
What I do is get a phrase in maltese (my 1st language) and spell it in a Lizardmen-like fashion. E.g. My flying skink priest of doom is called Aranigej [pronounced arani (the 'a' sounds like the 'u' in umbrella)-jay]. This is an amalgamation of 2 maltese words - arani (see me) gej (come) which translates roughly into - Here I Come!! this is also my nick Another name I use is It'Laq'Lem. Again, this is a mix of two words - Itlaq (go) L'hemm (away) i.e. Go Away! P.S. my brother came up with this one (or he'll sue me for breach of copyright) the list goes on Fun to do
Well the books I have are mostly textbooks either bought out of interest or through school.. I am sure you can find a general book on Maya Deities, or Incan deities that won't cost 50$ (canadian) Surely you could also use the internet as such a resource.
Heh just looked it up in the army book and made some examples from the word meanings page Atarxalot - Plagueslayer Dro'ka'khanxlot - Dwarfslayer Kai'itza - Lost one or Ancient one Huahua - Misthunt Khaitza - Justified one
I mix the words in the book and invent my own for example skink priest Tehe-Xili (scholarly fire) and my invention! Chun-Kata the decapitator (scar vet)
Wikipedia has some good entries on Aztec gods and such, I am getting a few names from there. You can even just modify existing ones, reverse the order of them or such. I haven't written any down yet though.
Back when the Australian GW site was a separate entity, it had a Lizardmen name generator. You'd just hit a button and a name would appear like magic.
I still have to get mine some.. but i am afraid it will be lame since my whole army is started too look like some candy store.. something like.. Che'wg Um the Slann Mage-Priest.
I am using some words and names from armybook a also from this web: http://20000-names.com/. There are some Aztec and Nahuatl names. Try it
im sorry but theres only one way to name a lizy, and thats a bad pun. the lizards have a rich history of this. itzy bitzy any one? so just think of a cool nake, mangle it up to sound a bit aztec/mayen and there you go. my skink prist is concerted form the warchief holding the heart. the pose he was in reminded me og begby form transpotting just befor he kicks the guy in the nuts, so hes called bek' bee
I agree, inane puns is a long standing tradition of Lizardmen, with such greats as Lotlbotl Tehenhauin Itzy bitzy Tichi huichi And the oh-so subtle Lord Kroak In that proud tradition I have named my pwn Lizardmen characters Lord Quatspa-Toto (Slann) Botlroq-It (Saurus BSB) Xocibiki (Skink Priest) The first two are my own creations, the skink is nicked from the 7th Ed AB
I look up "Inca civilisation" on wikipedia and used various bits of words I found to put some together, then looked at the "how to pronounce stuff" bit in the army book and added some sounds I liked. It worked
Using Myan words together is what I decided to do. It is where Kaax Taat was derived.................... Kaax Taat
My favourite is the Terradon Rider special character named after a popular game played by bored school children in the back of exercise books.
Or with this magical internet time machiene you can use GW's old Lizardmen automatic name generator. http://replay.waybackmachine.org/20...rhammer/lizardmen/extras/name_gen/default.htm Ps. be impatient.
I used the old lizardmen book, page 78 "Language and Glyphs" page to come up with genuine, bonified lizardmen names. Toaddha - This is my Slann mage, name not from the book. Mundi-Itza - mounted scar vet. name means "the natural one" Tehe-boq - "knowing weapon" - skink priest. I pronounce it with a click/cluck in the middle. GorLoq of the old ones - "Slashing weapon of the old ones" - Scar Vet. the page is great, with a pronounciation guide and whatnot as well....
The only thing I name are my different armies--- who rejoice under such lovely titles as "Amphibian Assault" and "The Sandy Cloaca's. "
