I 100% agree. And honestly i think saurus can still fill that roll, they just need to have those options baked out in the form of weapons/armor/spawnings.

A spawning that increases movement to 5 or 6. A spawning that increases WS and I by 1. A spawning that adds stubborn. A spawning that ... lets them breath fire? who knows.

Weapon/armor options would be great weapons, "maiming" shield, halberds, light armor, heavy armor??, tail barbs (poisoned attacks?), mr1 item???

I'd drop them by a point or 2 and just appropriately (easier said than done) point all the options. The competitive scene would find the one ideal combo that is "most" efficient and everyone else will have oodles of awesome new options.

I like all those options. I'm especially fond of the spawnings, perhaps due to nostalgic memories of yesteryear when we still had access to them (and Slann's that are immune to miscasts!). Plus I like the individualization that it grants players in terms of rules, fluff and painting.

For skrox, read their tactica... they are a poor choice. I woud only bring skorx in a unit of 10 cohort just for the LD, making them able to be on the sides, far from generals and bsb-s. They are not good anymore.
Back in 7th lm armybook, i used to play with skink cloud list, fielding 90-120 skinks (blowpipers, chamos), 2x2 sallies, 2x20 tg, with 2 slanns: each with extra pd to casts, loremaster of life, and the other was shadow. Life+shadow works together very nicely...

That is sort of my opinion on skrox as well. However, there seems to be mixed reviews of them on this forum. Some people swear by them; claiming that they have proven to be superior to saurus. I'm not quite convinced yet, but I am definitely intrigued.

Wait wait, nooblet question here, do the points you spend on Kroxigor as part of a Skink Cohort unit count towards core?

That's the impression I'm getting from you guys (and from a quick re-read of the Skink Cohort entry), but I just never put that together before...

That is correct. Kroxigor that are part of a skink-kroxigor cohort do indeed count towards your core points.

Ok. Thanks for the answer! I am way off-topic at this point (sorry!*), but two follow-up questions about the Spawn-Kin rule:

    1) The "can only target Kroxigor" part of the rule, at the start of paragraph 3, seems potentially ambiguous. Does it mean that close combat attacks (in the situations described) may only target Kroxigor? Or does it mean the Kroxigor may only be targeted in close combat if the enemy is in one of the positions described? (I really suspect, and even more hope, it's the latter, as the former would be awful.)

    2) Since the Kroxigor in a skink cohort combine unit have to go in the second rank, aren't they limited to only one supporting attack? If so, what do you gain by this? They each become one 3-WS (though admittedly 7-S) attacks, surrounded by a vast pile of largely-useless-in-melee skinks? Or is the idea that the Cohort is primarily a shooting unit, with an awkward surprise for anyone who tries to engage them up close? Or do you just hope that the enemy whittles down the cohort from range until you the now-s-less-krox get up in their face? Maybe you hope the Fear works, so the Skinks in the front can get more hits? I'm intrigued by the idea of fielding Kroxigor in core, but I'm not sure how it would actually work...

*Can I rationalize this off-topic-ness by saying I'm trying to understand my core-points alternatives to Saurus Warriors? Maybe?

    1) it means that you MAY only target kroxigor IF you in contact with the skinks in front of them, WHEN they are in the second row.
(shooting attacks are randomized as mentioned in the rules)

    2) Kroxigors are monstrous infantry, the same as ogres.
So they get 3 supporting attacks.

Or a simple answer would be to let the saurus warriors take a magic banner. Many other core units have the option for their standard bearer. With us only have 2 core options, you think they would have at least done that for us. With a magic banner we would be able to take the +1 movement magic banner for example.

I'm not sure either but one day a small but growing number of forumites all became zombie Skinks and got in a flame war on Flicker who was the true Scalenex. The handsome virus seems to be spreading as more people claim to be Scalenex, I alone am immune because I am definitely not Scalenex.

Thanks for your clarification, @Scolenex , i got it :D
Can that virus affect rippers? Sorry if i ask, but Cripple-Cripple-Little-Star (my beloved ripper, you know, that's his name) looks a bit strange today. Obviously i still LOVE him, even if he's so quiet, skinny and addicted to brains and he smells a bit: a real skink always loves his pet!

Have a look here for ideas on Saurus and spawnings. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1YQC46BZ49hrVRc742IL46vQQoPOqrVEytXa5lOORLN0/edit?usp=sharing
I've been working on my own Lizardmen Army Book for playing with family. I've combined elements of old fluff, rules, characters and ideas with the most recent army book. Basically trying to depict the lizardmen as they should be (according to fluff - slightly slow but deadly fighter Saurus backed up by nimbler skinks. Ludicrously powerful Slann and big dinosaurs.)

I've added a couple of units, changed some and added sacred spawnings. I felt like the game was moving away from the old one's killer machines so I hope this would make Saurus more competitive.

It's not finished and I'm not happy with all of it so do suggest improvements but this is the idea I'm heading for: close combat and short range missile fire backed up by the most powerful magic and lots of monsters.

I'm also trying to think of a way to make slann very powerful but limit casting options to represent their power but sluggishness. Any ideas welcome.

That is great, I will see if I cannot be allowed to use your sacred spawnings in my group.

Point values: do you use any sort of math calculation or just pick a number??

I'm not sure what you mean. Are you referring to when I said "appropriate point the options" because I didn't use anything I just stated it should be done.

Or are you referring to my suggested one point reduction to their cost?

    That. Although it was...
How did you decide on 1 or 2 (but not 3) and how would you finally chose either 1 point or 2?

Would depend on how much the equipment costed. 3 would be too much, a squad of 30 would be almost a hundred points less.

It was a mostly off the cuff answer. Is your response because you believe 3 points is bettter?

I'm not sure what you're point is exactly.
