That's unfortunate, if it isn't available on PS4 I have little interest. :(

It's a combination of real time strategy (RTS) and turn based strategy. Meaning that you have a world map with where you can conquer territories, build/expan your cities and raise armies/units.

During the RTS segment you control the army you have on the world map (if two armies clashes). You have a deployment zone and can move your units around however you like. Once battle starts it's all destroying your opponent, if you're besieging a castle there's also a capture point.

They're really quite good, although at times the AI can be weird and the games are known to have unfortunate bugs and glitches at their launch.

You can argue that the game feature a RPG segment in the way that your generals, spies etc can gain levels and you can choose between gaining more of 3 different stats. With the addition of Rome 2 Total War Creative Assembly gave generals a whole bunch of special abilities kinda making them into these weird fantasy heroes. I'm guessing the heroes in Warhammer fantasy will have similiar abilities since the system is already there.

It's a PC game and will likely stay like that.

Honestly no. The current gen consoles have lousy CPUs. The Total War games are very CPU demanding and can EASILY have upwards 2000+ units on the field. I believe a fully stacked army is 2000 units so two full stacks against each other are 4000 units, that's not counting any assisting armies.

Consoles would burn unfortunately. Either that or the game would have to be gimped and thrust me for these type of games you'll want to see them in all their glory.

Wow!! Thanks @Pinktaco for taking the time to write that very detailed explanation.

Also looking at the factions (orcs, dwarfs, empire, and vanpire counts) i reallized they are all located in the same portion of the old world map ("europe") so this got me thinking. Because this game is based in conquering and moving through the map could it be that the releases are based on locations of the map? And that with it comes the new races.

If thats the case the i can see the other factions being devided as follows:
    - new world (lustria)
    - naggaroth/chaos Wastes
    - ulthuan
    - araby and Southlands
    -the ogre kingdoms

Take a look at this map that I found

That may very well be true. Still as a console gamer, it means that I won't get to enjoy it. At least there is blood bowl 2 on the way!

@Xlanax_lot I really want to believe that will be the case, but being an avid player of the Total War series, it probably won't happen. Their games tend to have a few playable factions with lots of rebel or minor factions (and a few non-playable major factions) scattered around the map. Recent Total War games (the ones with dlc as opposed to older games with full fledged expansions) would "add" new factions by either fleshing out a generically named minor/major faction (they know have their own semi-unique troops) or major dlcs would use the same basic map, but alter it slightly to adjust for new and different factions. Are only hope is that the map starts off big enough to allow such expansions, or we'll just have to wait until Total War Warhammer 2 comes out :(

I doubt Lizardmen will make an appearance... but Chaos has to be added in at some point. First off, Chaos is huge in the WFB world. Secondly, the content of the trailer is a very strong indicator of Chaos' planned inclusion. Of course, I can only speak from the warhammer side of things since I have no experience with the Total War series.

I'm a big fan of the Total War franchise and have done extensive research today on what they're planning for warhammer. Total war is the pinnacle of the Real-time Strategy genre. How it works is you'll have a global map where the game is turn based and you have to not only deal with your armies, but the economy, research, religion, within-faction politics, allies, mercenaries, and provinces/regions to conquer. Each race/faction usually has a home base and expands outwards attempting to take over the world. The battles are optional to do either in real time or quick resolve. The real time battles of the total war franchise are legendary for being some of the most graphically impressive and detail oriented strategy battles that exist.

These guys are without a doubt the absolute best company to make a new Warhammer Fantasy game. There is NO ONE in the business of video games that comes even close to Creative Assembly. Odds are the game will be fascinating. Sotek knows I'll be pre-ordering.

Yes they are fond of DLC's, but Total War always offers new factions in DLC's and this sometimes includes new units for current factions. Based on the fact they've offered 3 stand-alones AND DLC I expect all 15 races to be playable eventually. The Stand-alones also mean if a New World or Lustria version comes out, you can buy JUST that one. You just won't have access to the races or special features from the other two, or you can buy all 3 and all DLC's to collect EVERYTHING.

I cannot express how excited I am for this. I'm building a new CPU from scratch so I have the perfect gaming rig to handle this game. It's going to be exciting to see Total War step from their historical emphasis into the world of magic and monsters that Warhammer brings to the table.

And back in your day games were the same price as they are now.

Games cost more to make, and the cost to buy them hasn't increased from this reason or from inflation.

DLC is a floundering industries desperate attempt to make money.

/shrug. Like it. Don't like it. There wouldn't be DLC if there didn't have to be.

    I've been waiting years! :D

While I still have that genetically imprinted "It goes as it always does...." lizardmen feel, I cant help but smile at the thought of seeing big bulks of Saurus march forward in real time!
I hope that the coldblooded will be represented, bring my dinos to life!

    Seems plausible too.
Would make sense to have Lizardmen x Skaven x Dark elves x High Elves release, to cover that part of the world.

Im very excited to see how the "non combat" parts of the game will take place!
    Dwarfs be mining
    Orcs be raiding
    Vampires be harvesting ....corpses.

Think about it; we've basically covered most of the Old World. My guess - Chaos will be a DLC pre-order faction.
We now about two actual expansions, that could likely be HE/DE in one and Lustria and Araby in another. In that way we would've covered most of the world. From here on it's just about releasing the various other armies also inhabiting the old world through DLC.

That'll make good sense in my opinion. It's easy for them to just cut off various parts of the whole world and include them with the expansions.

Major Nelson have already said that he's looking forward to Bethesda's E3 conference this year so we'll likely get news either about Fallout 4 or a new Eldescrow game :p

    Well, yes and no.

Accounting for inflation, video games today still cost more than they would've back in the 1990s, say. However, talking about consoles they actually cost significantly less than in the 1990s. A large reason for this is that the average household income (regarding the UK and USA, I can't speak for anywhere else) has not kept up with inflation resulting in lower prices for consoles in order to get them into homes.

I'm fairly indifferent to DLC, I've not had much experience of it but I remember as a kid thinking it'd be cool to add extra content after release. It really comes down to how it's treated game-by-game tbh.
