Greetings to all my thick-skinned brethren, Thought I'd introduce myself. I've played WHFB for quite some time now, playing as Ogre Kingdoms. In the past few months I've upgraded to the lizards - something I've wanted to do for an eternity! I've played x3 2.5K games using a list that was scraped together with whatever random bits I had available, and due to my lizardy inexperience I only won one of the three games. I feel I have may have shamed the old ones! Fortunately, my gaming group have decided to hold a succession of 1K tournaments. Hopefully this will allow me to build a decent list that I can advance from. I will post my proposed list shortly, all comments and criticism are welcome. I hope to start a paint blog soon too! I must confess that I've lurked on this site for a while and thought it was time I joined the ranks. Just wanted to thank everyone for the great content. The tactics articles are incredibly helpful! Cheers!
Welcome to the forums! The Old Ones rejoice whenever a lurker joins the active community. Here's the main thread for the next dice order. Let us know if you have any questions about tactics, fluff, rules, or anything else.
Thanks Scalanex! I've got a 1k tournament coming up soon, if you pass your eyes over the list and let me know what you think it'd be a great help. Here's the link: http://www.lustria-online.com/threads/first-1k-tournament-list.16111/ Also, ALL THE DICE PLEASE!!!!!!
I second this question. I'd love to learn more about the viability (or lack of viability) of our Krox!
Hey n810, Damn fine question! First of all, LOVE the models. Secondly, I love the look of big Skrox blocks. And I remember them being a particular thorn in my Bulls backsides during 7th. These days, not so much... The fact that they can be taken in core is great, I used x2 small Scrox units in my recent games, they did really well in my first ever lizard game and then died horribly in the following two games. Let's just put that down to inexperience though... If they could be taken by themselves (without a cohort) in core, then I'd be all over them! But as a Special choice, I just can't see them competing with our other options. Perhaps if they had impact impact hits, then a small unit would be tactically viable. But to really get the most out of them they'd have to be fielded in a unit of 6-8 (IMHO) which is a lot of points! I can see them really shining in non-saurus/temple guard lists - being able to keep pace with skinks, stegs and carnosaurs. But I just don't think there's room for them in standard lists. Of course this is just my opinion, and as a new lizard I'm still learning the ropes. So would be happy to hear other views.
That's a good analysis. I'm just trying to find a way to make them useful semi-powerful choice. WS3 and ASL just hurt them so much with their limited defensive characteristics. I wish they had an extra point of scaly skin OR a small regen (6+ or 5+) OR toughness 5.
Apart from boosting the crap out of them with a Life or Light Slaan then I think we're out of options. I must say I've noticed a pattern in the tactics forums - whenever we don't know what to do with a unit the answer always seems to be "ummmmm.... Throw magic at it?!" Apparently magic seems to be the cure for a lot of GW's mistakes. Im sure there was a conversation about raising the toughness of Krox when they were writing the book, but then someone stumbled in and reminded them that they could "essentially be taken as core". So they sacked it off and went to the pub instead. There could be some mileage in running a unit of Krox alongside an Ancient Steg with the engine, just not sure if that 6+ Ward would really pay off. Definitely worth a try though.
