I don't suppose we have a release date for 9th edition yet?

Nothing official. Rumours seem to point possibly to July, but we have nothing concrete.

The last (totally anonymous, unsourced) rumor I heard was July 11. As for what will change, who knows.

Meanwhile it feels like every videogame company in existence is constantly pummeling us consumers with endless descriptions of new features, changes, and fixes in weekly patches, occasional expansions and annual sequels. Heck, I know more about future releases of small-company-made pen and paper RPG systems than I know for sure about Games Workshop's future products. I know more about patch plans in videogames I don't even play than I know about FAQ release plans for Warhammer. I know more about the future plans of people who vlog about Warhammer than I do about GW's future plans for Warhammer!

But can GW be bothered to do that? Nope! They don't even have functioning social media accounts, except for their YouTube account that seems more focused on the painting side than the game side, and release-day announcements. The painting stuff is cool, heck I enjoy it, but I guess it's too much of a hassle to engage the gaming side of the community at all? Do they somehow think rage-y negative rumormongering results in more profits than deliberately-guided hype generation?

I know White Dwarf drops ambiguous hints the week before releases, but that just doesn't cut it for me. Maybe that's enough time for other people to budget the sums of money GW wants, and to process ideas, but I suspect it's not.

...Maybe I'm just too new to this Warhammer thing, and I don't understand "how this works." But, seriously, I don't know if I can perpetuate my enthusiasm for this long-term-investment product when the company behind it does nothing (that I know of) to engage with us. In a world (even just the miniatures wargaming genre) with so many other options, GW's angsty-Superman-Fortress-of-Solitude behavior may eventually alienate me entirely.

But in all honesty, I completely agree with you. GW is going to shoot themselves in the foot (if they haven't already done so). Over the years, my opinion of GW has soured tremendously. I used to absolutely love this company, and now I despise them (though I still love the models they release, and 8th edition in general). GW had it all, a virtual monopoly in this sector. I feel it is their corporate decisions and polices that have resulted in providing the opportunity for other companies to take a significant bite out of that sector. GW will fall eventually... I can't see them surviving the next 10 years unless there are some very drastic changes.

But hey, they did produce all these great Lizardmen models that I love, so kudos to them for that!

 

What does the rumour mill say about the 9th ed. In general? I here a lot of negative suggestions, but no concrete reasons for this new ed. to be bad.

 

While Gw's customer service (in case of faulthy products etc.) is generally quite good. Their communications towards the players are totally non existant, and yeah, this will definately not help them in the long run.

 

I don't think there is many strong rumours hinting in a way or another. Some say it will become a skirmish game, some say the 8th ed ruleset will remain and there will be a completely new skirmish game on the side which you can mix and match the units with and then there's the complete wipe and 6 factions thing. Who knows...

The rumours are a pretty big mess at the moment. But they are stirring up a lot of fear in the gaming community, especially considering how the End Times concluded.

9th is supposedly being released in the Summer, with the 11th July strongly hinted at. Before that May is suppose to see a skirmish game based mid- End Times that will also introduce the new "Heroes of Light" faction.

 

Well between the end of May-June are my guesses. Once 40k fans are rolling in new models/ codexes and maybe a Space Marine codex. (I play Space Wolves but I find fantasy easier to play)
Those are my guesses.
I kind of think nothing drastic will change, just a smidge update here and there and maybe some model upgrades. Maybe new characters or just a pure copy and paste of fluff with changes. But who knows...

Do you want to be of Sotek, Because I sense this is more a like the power's of Tetto'eko and he's not necessarily of Sotek?
Can you also cast lore of heavens, or do you have multiple options?

 

Well I have to kinda go by not believing this, a group of us know our store manager very well and he does not even know what is going on. People working at the HQ have very tight boundaries for information, they are apparently not even allowed to tell store managers until it is like a week or so before actual release from what I remember the manager was saying. Releasing info before it is set to be told to store owners and that is a big no no.

Some areas seem right but time will tell.

 

I have no idea how accurate or inaccurate this may be. I'm always hesitant to put much stock into rumours brought forth by anonymous sources. Without an established track record I'm skeptical at best. But I thought it was worth sharing, because some people do have inside information, so you never know. As you said, time will tell.

 

If y'all have been following the rumor-mill, you might have heard of this lady who goes by "Atia," and has some kind of insider info or mutant superpower to detect parts of GW's webstore infrastructure before products get released. She's been completely on the ball for predicting WH40K products well in advance so far this year. Now Atia has found one called the "Age of Sigmar" which matches up to a rumor about the supposed various ways to play 9E matching up to different eras of WFB history, one of which would be "the Age of Sigmar." It apparently also matches up to a rumor about the whole WFB 9E game being called that. Who knows.
