Hi guys, just got back into the hobby and my local GW happened to be having an escalation league starting first day I went in. Made a quick dirty 500 pt list for the first few weeks and now it's heading up to 1k. We also get a free hero (I took a scar vet bsb for mine), however he can't have any magic items (yet). In any case, here's the 1k list I'm thinking of running for the next two weekends. Units don't have to stay the same for higher point values (next is 1250 I believe), so I could not have any saurus or any skinks, etc. Oldblood - Crown of Command, Armor of Fortune, Dawnstone, Ironcurse, GW, shield Skink Priest - Lvl 2, Scroll, Heavens 25 Saurus - FC 2 x 12 Skink Skirmishers Bastilodon - Solar Engine Free hero: Scar Vet - LA, shield, GW, BSB The majority of the armies in the league have lots of artillery so I figured the ward from Ironcurse would be helpful since my Oldblood will be in the Saurus unit. Priest will go with one of the skink units. Not sure if I should go with blowpipes or javs on the skinks, what's the current consensus on that? Unfortunately most armies are running Lore of Undeath from End Times, and I have no idea what's the best way to counter that. It's been 5+ years since I made an army list that tried to be remotely competitive so please tell me what I'm doing wrong
Honestly, the list looks pretty solid for 1000 points. Skink weapons are a matter of preference between more shots and longer range with blowpipes versus short range, always able to stand and shoot and poisoned close combat attacks with javalins. If you expect (or want) your skinks to be in combat, then Javalins might be best. If the skinks are meant to be your war machine hunters, then blowpipes will do a better job taking them down. As for Lore of Undeath, I've only played against the lore once but what I believe is the best way to counter the lore is to prevent too many spells from being cast due to its lore attribute giving the caster counters for each successful spell cast (the more counters, more points of undead summoned on the table in future spells) and Lizardmen are not an army that handle attrition as well as Skaven or Orcs.
Javelins typically outperform blowpipes in most situations. This thread has some useful information comparing the two... http://www.lustria-online.com/threads/blowpipes-vs-javs.16161/
I don't think javelins give poisoned close combat attacks? in that case the poison upgrade for regular skinks is pretty silly
I stand corrected. So skinks should never get stuck in combat as they will fold like paper. Excellent thread suggestion. Personally, I have had better luck with blowpipes in most games just going after war machines and other skirmish units and avoiding anything that could charge them back after shooting.
Lesson one of playing LM, never put your Skinks in CC and expect them to kill even a single zombie. XD. On the list, why do you take Heavens over Beasts? I feel like that the fact that Priests now can take Beasts is actually a massive buff for them, Wyssans is a great spell!
I think I'll probably be switching lores on a battle by battle basis. When I go against the Dwarf player Heavens is great because of Iceshard, but Beasts will likely be better against the rest of the guys (End Times chaos, High Elf all cav, Lizardmen, a few others). All those armies have some artillery (bolt throwers, chaos sometimes takes cannon, other Lizardmen running Steggies) so the Ironcurse still helps, but there's not as much shooting as the Dwarf player.
Seems reasonable, i was never that impressed by Iceshard(It's still only a -1) but i know people love the spell. I feel that our matchup against gunline dwarves is already good enough to not make Heavens neccesary, but well, you won't see a gunline dwarf list at 1K as that list does not really work at low points.
It's more for the warmachines. 50% chance his cannon won't be doing D3 wounds to my Bastilodon? I'll take it.
Very true, a useful spell against gunline armies like dwarves and elves. I always hope for Comet though, as it can be great for forcing those gunline lists to abandon their positions or be toasted when the comet lands.
