So yeah, as implied I'm having really bad issues with gold at the moment. Currently I'm just doing burnished gold, shining gold hi-lighting, and mithril silver weathering (paints are a bit outdated yes). The problem is burnished gold covers like crap and it's taking me forever to get my army done because of it. Anyone know of more effective ways to paint gold, or should I just suck it up and deal with it? Also, I've got a paint scheme layed out for everything except my stegadon. I literally have no idea how I want to paint my stegadon. If anyone has ideas for that too I'd be glad to hear it. I appreciate any help in advance.
Brown undercoat! I use gold a lot. Check out my plog for results. The brown undercoat is also really good for whites, off whites, and light silvers.
^ This and make sure you stir the paint well use a cocktail srick/old brush end, metallics are heavier and the flake drops to the bottom of the pot.
> would kehmri brown work? > yeah I always shake the heck out of the gold but I'll try stirring it too. Can't be to vigorous with it.
I would recommend a brown wash over the gold (Devlan mud, Agrax Earthshade etc.) to help smooth out the gold colour because of how unevenly it goes on.
I use Testors metallic Enamel paints instead, they cover in one coat and look better. http://www.amazon.com/Testors-Enamel-Paint-Metallic-4-Ounce/dp/B005D6YUJS PS. you need paint thinner instead of water for enamels.
Avak786 > first of all, awesome username. secondly, yeah I did do a wash of devlan mud pretty much out of habit. Looks great; that stuff's like Michelangelo in a can. n810 > I will definitely look into that. That looks like a really nice shade of gold. NIGHTBRINGER > Khemri brown was the only brown I had off-hand, otherwise I would've gone for a more yellow-ish brown. Trying to get a pic up but my syncing is being a real pain in the arse
There we go. Obviously not done yet; looking at it now I could do a little more weathering on the some of the parts and the paint the base over. And then clean up the bits where I was a clutz with the brush but yeah the brown undercoat and the wash really helped a lot.
Very nice color scheme! It's amazing how much the undercoat changes the final look of your model, huh?
Really though. Thanks, I'm particularly happy with the purple on the shield. That's what I've got planned for the rest of the army too.
