I started playing warhammer a few years ago, and still I learn new things about the rules/lizardmen. To play correct is hard in a world of vague rules and RAW/RAI its easy to get lost. Lets take some time and reminisce of our warhammer noob times! What rules did you read wrong that lead to units being hilariously op/up? I remember I thought tetto'ekos comet reroll actually added more counters. My OnG friend is probably still traumatized after 8+2d6 str 12 comet wiped nearly his entire army . Or when i thought salamanders just placed the breath template right infront of them without rolling an artillery dice. At an early point i also thought poison ignored armor saves and that blowpipes/javelins had 18 range. Lets just say my skinks were hated for a while in one of my gaming groups (we were all very new to the game). Feel free to share your own stories!
I have a friend who didn't read the rule where you cannot add more than 3 steam points for any of the abilities the steam tank have. Well let me put it this way.m with 5 steam points for the impact hit it basically removed a large kroxigor unit by itself ._____.
Haha, well, one of the very first times I played, we thought you can place the vortex template where ever you want. So on my first turn, I cast Purple Sun to my friend's Orcs' flank and wiped out most of his army. For a while, we both just stood there, then checked the rules and were like "oooohh" and started over...
One of my freinds hadn't read how to use the organ gun correctly, so he just took the artillery dice and rolled three times, and that was how many hits he got , instead of rolling for how many shots, yeah that was a lot of dead anything really.
I remember my high elf friend doing this aswell, he killed 30 saurus, 15 TG and a slann (didnt know about look out sir against templates).
I had Apparently looked passed the change of always strikes first in charge, weren't a thing any more. Causing some pretty poor decision on the movement side of the game, as it turned out my pal did knew
I had this problem too. More or less wiped out my opponents Tomb King army, and the worse part was that I got more dice from the spell than what I started my magic phase with.
Right when I first started playing as a young whipper-snapper I used to think Magic Item allowance was an additional points factor that wasn't included in the army points total. For some reason I had assumed the max points per army was only for the model price, and items came after. No idea why as it's pretty obvious that the item points were there for a reason. Still, it led to a few unimpressed stares/sheepish mid-game army list changes when my error was discovered
We thought that hatred works in shooting attacks. About three battles where dwarfs had hatred on everything made us check the rules
The first interpretation of Pit of Shades for my friends and I were that all models the template scattered over was hit and had to take a test. Luckily we didn't actually play it that way because we googled around and found an answer. Otherwise it would remove everything xD
