Who cancels a shoe? You throw shoes out when they wear out or go out of style. Also do you have to keep getting me involved in everything. I've been busy with editing Scalenex's fluff pieces and various bamboo related activities.

    1) Kung Fu Panda Legends of Awesomeness
    2) Malcolm in the Middle
    3) Bones

    Game of Thrones!

Doctor Who is good fun. I've never seen the original series, but I've enjoyed the new series.

Star Trek has an amazing ability to be really good and really bad at the same time. Like James Cameron's work but less commercially successful.

What really killed it was when people who grew up as Star Trek fans began writing episodes. When the inmates run the asylum you get a succession of over the top plots. Time travel, dimensional rifts, space Fair Folk (Q over and over again), to name a few. In the original Star Trek Spock was considered uptight by Vulcans (he was over compensating for being half-human). Later, each revamp of Star Trek made Vulcans more robot-like. Basically every alien race, character archtype, and basic plot device became a parody of itself.

That being said Star Trek had many good aspects. A (relatively) optimistic futuristic setting rather than a dystopia or cacatopia of some sort. There were a lot of cases of sci-fi settings being used to showcase archetypal stories. I found episodes when they had to save one to four crew members from danger X far more satisfying than thwarting threats to universe, space time continuum, yada yada. It's hard to up the scale continually and keep stories from being hack.

Blasphemy I say! Q is one of the most epic characters in TNG. His interactions with Picard were absolutely amazing. Maybe it's just a Panda thing... that has to be it... a Panda thing!

I agree with Scolenex to an extent, there is so much cheese with Star Trek but I liked the hopeful future they showed in the series. I grew up with TNG so I am biased towards liking Q quite a bit!

    Game of Thrones
    Vikings

I'll put Supernatural in as an honorable mention, but it should have ended several seasons ago. Now it's just silly.

I do love a good swords n blood n mud story.

Although, I'm tempted to replace HoC with The Thick of It...by far my most favourite comedy series ever.

Doctor Who is both fun and annoying. It has a discontinuous canon and happily tramples over the rules it sets itself, characterisation is all over the place (as is the episode quality), its silliness can get overbearing, and it can't decide on what audience it's aiming at. However, it has an undeniable charm and really runs with its concept. This may result in a few iffy episodes, but I can't help but appreciate the imagination and fan-service it provides :p

Q is easily my favorite side character of the entire series. He was always good for a laugh, and his episodes are a collection of some of the best that TNG has to offer.
Agreed, the show is a bit all over the place at times, but at the end of the day its good fun and an enjoyable ride.

Recently I had a thought: The Twilight Zone. The episodes don't have a lot of rewatch potential, but I don't think any show since has that level of artistry. Not all of the 100+ episodes were great but the majority of them were pretty impressive and/or spine tingling.

There hasn't been a noticeably successful attempt at a revival. Nor has there been a series that based on poignant sci-fi horror since.

I've been trying to figure out if such a show is impossible in the 21st century. Is it the black and white picture? Does that enhance horror and drama? What about the fact that the cast of Twilight Show, You don't see many shows with a non-constant cast of characters. Also the actors were relatively normal looking compared to actors today as opposed to ludicrously attractive people that dominate every show today.

Is it the technology? Without cellphones to call for help, Twilight Zone characters were more alone and exposed than modern characters would be in the same situation.

Is it an issue of complexity? Nowadays it seems plots are either very simple or very complicated.

Is it the Internet? Twilight Zone episodes were often preachy. In todays twitter age every episode would have gobs of people whining and flaming about similar things today.

I'd be nice to have a show like that today. All I'm saying.

Agreed. To make matters worse, there are horrible shows on TV that get renewed season after season after season.

I did really enjoy Firefly, but I can't help but think that a large portion of it's popularity is because most of its fans found it post-cancellation, and that tragic nature, buttressed by nostalgia, has elevated the show to a position where it's considered far more of a classic than it actually was.
