Hello hello! I have been juggling couple other projects alongside with the Lizards. Here's one of them, my first 40k army, Necrons. I have enough models for 2000 point games (I can make working lists of up to 1850 or so), but basically none of them are painted. I really like the models, but I wanted to find a way to be able to paint them reasonably fast. This is where I'm at now. Immortal / general colour scheme of the army: Also, now that the Flayed Ones are crazy good, I wanted some of 'em! The problem was that the official models are also crazy expensive! So, I decided to make my own. I took some Necron Warriors, repositioned some joints and made them hunch, added all kinds of crazy weapons that I had left from the kits of my other armies. Then I used green stuff to make the skin of their unfortunately victims that they wear. For the colours, I wanted to make them very different from the rest of the army. They are the infected, after all. I went with green. The idea was to make them seem like poisoned characters from early Final Fantasy and other JRPGs. Plus, I got to splatter Blood for Blood God around for the first time! Anyway, here's the test model: The bases are not finished yet. I'm going with a snow theme with blue crystals here and there. Let me know what you think!
Well I think you have done a first class job, if I could have liked your post twice I would have, really enjoy your painting posts. Lustria-online is for Lizardmen, I don't think so, it's for anything you collect and paint and they are all judged equally, apart from anything on a round base for AOS @NIGHTBRINGERJoking apart, this forum is the best and I love posting my stuff here.
@Caprasauridae Awesome work on the Necrons. They are actually the first army I ever owned and what got me into the hobby. You've done a wonderful job with them. Can't wait to see more of your army as you complete it... especially the C'tan! Nice!
Thanks, guys, really great to hear you like them! @Crowsfoot, I know what you mean about only having one like to give, I often feel the same with your posts! Well, a comment can convey a thousand likes, me thinks. Also, there is a world wide recession going, so even L-O had to reduce the number of forums. And since this is the only painting subforum, I thought it was a place for my necrons as well... @NIGHTBRINGER, I have the Trancendent C'Tan model amd I'm excited to paint it, but first I'll practice on some other, less unique models. Next up is a Canoptek Spider, I think!
@NIGHTBRINGER, I would love to paint the Nightbringer model, but unless I find them on eBayb for super cheap, I don't see myself buying either of them. I use the Transcendent C'Tan as a Nightbringer usually anyway, my group is not that strict with proxying. @is4evrdead, thanks, it took me forever to settle on a paint scheme, but I'm happy with it now.
I'd imagine that they will turn up on Ebay for a good price from time to time. I think they are both very beautiful models and will really stand out in your army. I just wish that GW (Matt Ward) hadn't retconned the C'tan fluff.
I have been scavenging the eBay for two years now and as the Nightbringer is probably my favourite model in the army, I have been vigilant about it, particularly. No luck so far, I guess others like it too. I don't mind the fluff change, I think it made Necrons more interesting. They needed something to flesh out the army. C'Tans as star gods wouldn't have been fieldable in their normal form, it wouldn't have made sense.
Keep searching, you never know. What type of price are you hoping to pick it up for? I find the army is too fragmented now. Before they were a unified force, a threat to the entire universe. They felt powerful, mysterious and ominous. Now they no longer inspire those feelings in me. The C'tan issue could have easily been solved by using "avatars of the C'tan"; projections of the C'tan that although powerful, are merely shadows of their true selves. Those would have made sense fluffwise and also bring them down to a power level that would have been manageable on the battlefield. I loved the fluff in the original army book. Once they switched it over I knew I would never return to 40k.
The problem with eBay is the postage charges. Most sellers are in the UK, and postage to Finland would be around 5-10e. So I would like to have it for less than 10e + postage. And funny, I feel the opposite about the fluff. I love the fact that the only reason the Necrons haven't kicked the asses of all the other races, is that their dynasties are in such different states. Makes me feel like the fraction of their might is enough to make others tremble. I agree, though, that they didn't have to make C'tan Necrons' bitches, but then, for me, they would have to have another reason to be nonunified than the great sleep. And the Canoptek units would need a rewrite as well.
That's the part that hurts the most. Prior to the release of the book, I was hoping that they would expand on the other two surviving C'tan, The Void Dragon and The Outsider, but instead they did a complete 180 and turned the Nightbringer and Deceiver into shards. In the end I don't really like retcons very much. I don't like the feeling of investing time, energy and money into something that is made obsolete (from a fluff perspective) via retcon.
@NIGHTBRINGER Extra C'tans would be awesome, together with sweet models! Well, a souless, metallic killing machine can dream. @Chicken Lips Thanks, I really love the paint I used for the blue!
Agreed! Fluff-wise they could do.... The Void Dragon The Outsider I would love to see those models come into fruition, although it is somewhat less exciting since the fluff on longer focuses on the C'tan. I'd still be very curious as to what they would come up with model-wise. It will never happen though.
