THIS MIGHT BE THE BEST ROUTE, we used to have something like this, except the greater spawnings where only for characters, and only units and characters had to have the same spawnings to join up. Oh, and I think Old Bloods could take 2 spawnings.
I like the idea of greater and lesser spawnings. Perhaps a unit with a lesser spawning would remain core, while a unit with a greater spawning would be shifted to the next category (core to special, special to rare).
What's the opinion on the following: Slann lvl 4, ward 4+. 250pts. May be upgraded to lvl 5 at 100pts. No disciplines Consider adding 2-3 arcane items, only available for the slann. 1) Cupped hands: one use only, may reroll miscast result. 2) Plaque of protection: The unit accompanying the Slann gains a 5+ ward except in close combat. 3) ??? Armies of temple cities You must pick one of the following when making a list: Indenpendant No special rules. Stalwart defenders of (insert temple city) Saurus Warriors may take Light Armour (or scaly skin 4+) at +1-2pts/model. Templeguards have sword/shield and bodyguard (Army General) at 13pts. Raptor Riders may take Light Armour at +5-6pts/model. The Bastiladon have the Stubborn Special Rule at +15-20pts. Jungle Fighters of (insert temple city) The army general may vanguard D3 units, +50pts on the army general. Saurus Warriors may take either ambush or Strider (forest/water) at +1-2pts/Model. Templeguards may take Strider (forest/water) at +1-2pts/model. Raptor Riders may take Strider (forest/water) at +3-4pts/model. Swift attackers of (insert temple city) 1 Raptor unit may be used as a core unit. Saurus Warriors may take the swiftstride special rule at +1-2pts/model. Templeguards may take the Swiftstride Special rule at +1-2pts/model. The Troglodon have the Swiftstride Special Rule +10pts.
I think 100 points is way too much, but I like the idea very much. So these are kind of sacred spawnings in disguise? I like it, but I would like sacred spawnings a bit better, but if that will not happen, I could live with something like this.
I like the way the whole army is involved. I would like some unit or character based blessings as well... But this one fits good to the image of different cities with different gods...
@ASSASSIN_NR_1 Yes that was the intention, however I found having units each with their own spawn to be kinda odd. I mean wouldn't an army from Temple City X have the same attribute throughout the entire army? It's easy to make up fluff stating that each Temple City have a Spawning Pool bestowed with unique qualities from the ancient god the temple city worshiped. So in other words all units would come from the same kind of spawning. Also the +1 To Cast and Dispel arcane item is 70pts, getting an extra spell is currently priced at 35pts. I don't think it's a stretch that lvl 5 is 100pts @tom ndege I kinda did involve characters to a certain degree. The Templeguard bodyguard rule have been changed to (army general) so you could have an oldblood granting the unit stubborn. There's also a specific vanguard option in the Jungle Warriors @serbianwolf This is just an off-spring from a discussion on T9A forum. Generally speaking we've been told the team is torn whether or not to give us sacred spawnings since we already have disciplines. After some talk back and forth I came up with this. It still allow the Slann to be powerful (lvl 5) and with unique items we still have a little something for the poor old frog.
I think that is also due to the magic item being available for everyone, and it can be stacked on what you already have. A normal lv upgrade costs 35 points, so to almost triple that price might be a bit much, in my opinion. We alreday pay overprice for the extra spell, when compared to other wizards who can get another spell and +1 to cast and dispel for the same price. It is fair as we have more options with our disciplines, but it should still not get overpriced. yeah but the Slann aren't meant to have spawnings (in my opinion). The spawnings are for the Skinks and Saurus. That depends on how you think about spawning pools. If you think that they are fixed and certain spawnings come out of specific pools, then yes, units with different spawnings would be a little wierd. If you think of them being programmed by the old ones to spawn appropriate spawnings for the situation, then it makes sense that different units could have different spawnings.
My pov on spawnings and specially sacred ones is that it has nothing to do with the pools. There would be too many and there would be nothing rare about them anymore. Rather I think about them having very specific timings. Certain stars that align a certain way or something of that sort. A more, it has to do with the universe, kind of approach...just my pov of what would fit best.
@Pinktaco I would just like to repeat something that has been said before, that i think is important. The slann you propposed is fine, except its a bit bland, if you propose to actually give him the disciplines through items thats great, but if all he becomes is a lvl 5 wizzard thats a bit blaah. fluff wise the slann should be powerfull and should be slightly overpowered, because there are other parts of our army that are underpowered and that balances things out. I get it that 9ed people, and all of us i beleive, whant to se both lord choices become viable, but that shouldnt be done through cutting the slann totaly down, because all we will get then is a bunch of pretty much generic characters all around. Slann should be our strongest model, the goal that we should strive to, IMO, is not to make the oldblood and slann eqals, but to make OB viable and not just in flufffy games...
The Army Book Committee have both fully fledged disciplines and sacred spawnings in their own work so I know they're interested in both. Remember that what I propose is just that, a proposal. I don't really have much more say in that regard than you do. Anyway we'll see what the ABC team can get away with, they still have to keep within the guidelines
I agree. I'd love to see a solid set of disciplines that are all unique and worth taking. That way people can tool up their Slann in many different ways. Level 5 is powerful, but uninteresting.
