Calling the boltspitter a melee weapon is like calling a sword a ranged weapon. You could use it like that, but it's not the intended use and it won't effectively work. I mean come on, the boltspitter in melee is weaker than unarmed attacks!
True and it is strange why you can't have jav's and clubs, but 5+ to hit and 6+ to wound would you really want that as a melee? I know Jav has 6+ to hit and 5+ to wound making it slightly better but the warscroll looks like it is designed to make the skinks hit and run models, giving you a shield option is just a bonus.
If it was designed to be one it should be screaming for a shield then, since the shooting is horrible, still (no mods considered); pointless to have the clubs: hit and run clubber skinks? Mmm Mine are pretty old and have jav + club + shield. There is no point in using common sense in aos, so i still feel that they should have allowed it. Even like this, it doesn't make them into a killing machine unless you buff em twice with like a mystic shield and use all possible hit mods...
I agree, I would prefer no melee option and a better save for when they do get stuck in combat, but I really don't have enough experience yet to say I'm using mine correctly.
Again, common sense is useless Weak or not, on the left hand you "CAN" put a club there regardless of the ranged weapon... Two ranged are not possible (would have a dream come true though) but as said before there is no plausible explanation to why we may not use jav + club (and stick a shield in too)
Naa man it's not about experience, it's about aos's nonsense Which, hey, i do enjoy (aos) but there are just times where some rules make me chuckle Like being able to shoot any visible unit while engaged in melee combat. Immagine having the time to prepare some boltsplitters or bows or CANNONS while fighting hand to hand with 10+ enemies
Well presumably because the skinks are too small to fight a melee with their javelins in one hand, hence why they can't dual-wield melee weapons. Meanwhile they can hold the javelin with two hands as well as having a shield, because the shield is strapped to their forearm and leaves their hand free. That'd be why they can't have clubs and javelins.
Lol Yeah me and my pal here have a home rule which cancels shooting while in combat. Unless it's something like a salamander or skinks on a steg etc
Man as much as i agree i really can't "accept" common sense explanations; you know what i mean? Lol They use one han for a javelin and javelins are held and thrown with one hand. They technically could use the club on the other. They can still go boltsplitter + club simce it's left hand and right hand But anyway however we put it we gotta stick to the rules right?
I do think it's a moot point anyway because clubs on skinks are worthless, so it's not like anyone would have them anyway.
Now that you have to choose between that and no -1 rend on your save, yes. But come to think of it...if you are in melee with, say, zombies the clubs would be a good alternative i think
Really not, because zombies are bloody vicious. 3's to hit, 4's to wound, and the ability to revive their ranks insanely quickly in three different ways? Yeah no, anything but your best will be useless against that wall.
I'm actually not sure if shields on skinks are worth it. To take effect the enemy must decide to attack skinks with rending weapons? Who attacks such low level units like skinks with rending weapons?
Somebody with rending attacks, rend isn't so rare that this wouldn't happen. For example, I'd be happy to fire a stray shot or two from my Carnosaur at them and that rends. Sure it's situational, but it will save lives in those situations and it's much better than having clubs when skinks are so frail they can be killed by breathing on them too hard.
Depends on their numbers. If they go back hit and wiund on 6 you can chop em down since they get insta-mortal wounds
Unless your opponent is a total cabbage, they'll be in huge numbers that are constantly reviving themselves. I could do it with ease and I don't even play undead. And who gets mortal wounds?
