I had the custom issue too, the guy did want to give the dice over for free (as it was crazy ridiculous) but rules are rules. UK really clamped down on imports for goods. Did get the dice yesterday, love them. Even my dad says how good they are (and it's hard to impress him) Can't wait to use them in a battle.
This is going back decades and in a different part of the world, but I got hit with customs based on the INSURANCE value of the goods, which the supplier had guessed / generously inflated to triple the value of the actual goods (thousands). There was no possible comeback other than to fork over the readies. Lesson: If you are sending something and you need to declare the value on the outside of the packet, make it vaguely accurate.
Usually goes of the postage charge and what the item is worth if the total exceeds a limit you get charged.
so I picked up the dice from the post office and they are awesome, really pleased. I argued the toss over the custom charge but even though the label was marked as a gift (with a value of $50) they are due import tax. The customes randomly select samples of incoming deliveries and charge tax, so I guess I was unlucky. He even said xmas presents that sent over to family are liable for import duty. Utter rip off but I guess that's how we pay for our welfare state. Anyway the dice are cool and cant wait to use them!!
Man, this customs business is crazy. That's 3 of you so far. Last year I didn't hear of anyone having to pay for it. Does anyone in the UK know if this is a new law? Next year I'll have to have one of you be a distributor so we can avoid this excess charge nonsense.
I learned that if the goods that come into the UK are worth over £15, they get a fee charge. This year they are very strict on what comes it due to what is happening at the moment. So a higher amount of parcels are getting checked, no matter what they are.
Nope, I have had stuff from the US last month and not had a charge, it's an easy way to make money, not getting into politics but the current government is promising all sorts and reducing budgets at the same time, we have had one police authority saying they may have advertisments on their uniforms and cars to help maintain current police levels.
I believe one would call the fees "Extortion" or "Highway Robbery". Sorry to hear about this, its not good.
Dice have arrived in Belgium. Also had to pay customs fee , so you UK guys aren't the only ones, if that's any comfort. They told me at the post office that 95% of the parcels that arrive from the US are taxed now, no matter if they are gifts.
Well after a shit day at work I arrive home to this package of happiness. I am a bit disappointed though. I didnt order more, they are gorgeous.
