I know it's a bit late but I literally just noticed how small all the monsters have become (carnosaur, stegadon, bastiladon, etc) I think this is extremely stupid as most thing have gone up in price but got smaller. I think A O S is bad anyway because warhammer are trying to make the battles smaller skirmishes and are giving us 40K rounded bases. what do you guys think?
They didn't change anything about the molds or the kits. Except stick round bases in the newer packaging... ...how do you mean small?
I like you guys! Anyway, what never seized to amaze me is the difference between sizes of Stegs and Terrorgheists/Arachnarok. I feel somewhat threatened when I play vs my UD/O&G friends.
Lol. Yeah, the Stegadon seemed huge when it came out with the 7th Edition book. Then all these super sized models came out and it just seemed average. Even the Carno/Trog isn't all that big. In AoS the models are the same size unless you are getting some knock off Chinese models. Look them up. They really do exist and they are smaller and less detailed. It's like they digitally scan the model and then reproduce them at 2/3 the size on inferior molds. Total garbage.
I feel you about the monsters. I think the Steg model is a pretty perfect size, it's a large scary thing but at the same time it's not supposed to be an over the top epic monster, which the later models suffered from. I *think* I recall seeing the "new" Ogre beasts, and they seemed pretty reasonable as well. Large enough to be interesting, small enough to not be over the top or look like a toy. I've not put my new Carnosaur together (even though I bought it a year and a half ago before WFB died and my work got in the way...) so I don't know if it's a nice size or not...
If I ever field a Dread Saurian it will be converted from a plastic dinosaur, a plastic dinosaur that will be over large compared to a standard Steg, or the old metal Steg, but it will look dinky compared to the Age of Stupendous things ... and new AoS things coming down the pike. If it starts to look too small I'll just get a bigger toy dinosaur.
The new carnosaur have a good size, I'm just happy I'm not a HE player with all those big fliers. They're annoying to transport
That's one thing that has really annoyed me with all these really big models, I understand GW want grand impressive models but from a gaming point they are too big. I think it would be better to release 2 versions a gaming model and a display model.
Hah, but of course at double the price. These are the Games workshop shareholders we're talking about.
Should get both for one price. I love GW models but since getting into KOW and buying some Mantic models I have had my eyes opened to the price of some items. A full starter army from Mantic 76 models (using Dwarfs as the example) for £50 detail is not as crisp as GW but acceptable for gaming with. A box of Ironbreakers from GW £30 for 10 models, fantastic models great for display but maybe too much for gaming. I never thought I would say it but GW do seem to be pushing their products in the wrong direction.
