Hey ! I'm restarting a skink army and i wonder how to use this guy. In each format does it fit the best ? 1000, 2000 ? Which use ? Which combo/synergie can he get from oser unit (like skink chief + skink) ? In which kind of army does it fit the best ? can he replace a Stegadon ? How do you use it ? (it seems understated in the previous edition, what is his status now) It's a new guy for me. Thanks
This is a great unit, works best in my opinion in a skink heavy army with a slann. The skink keyword allows you ro coordinate your synergies, the fact that it will probably unbind spells every turn. (Assuming your dice rolls, but should be able to get in range of wizards quickly) The slann casting through it is also fantastic. As far as replacement for steg, yes, but it changes how you play everything because while you still want to charge wtih it, it won't be as devastating. The shooting is different but as said that is made up for by letting your slann get to those hard to reach places. The -1 to bravery can also be quite good come battleshock.
Ok I saw him like a big light cavalry model. Fast, outflanking and possibly annoying. Not a front line model, just a middle size monster, strong enough to counter redirections and map control alone while your army keep going.
I got other questions abot other units : - Wary fighters for skinks : The wording is strange, i read that they can retreat when the got charged... and i red :"when they pile in attack" for me they can retreat instead of attacking in combat phase. So they get charged, get smashed and then move. (and maybe a battleshock test)... Is there an update or a clarification for this ? Because, if they can move back of 8" each time they got charged, it's insane ! - Can the stegadon chose himself (as a skink unit) for the prime skink bonus ?
Absolutely could be used this way. It is actually quite versatile. For the skink wary fighter The idea here is to have multiple combats. Or have domething bigger blocking your skinks. So if your opponent charges your skinks you're hoping you either still have a combat going on or that he charges aother unit and chooses to attack the other first. After that is resolved you choose which units attack next so you move your skinks away. Or if you have krox or salamanders or something in the way of the skinks. When the opponent does his pike in could get within 3 inches of skinks at which point you can get them away from the battle. Movement and placement is key for skinks. And yes. The Steg can choose itself as a skink unit.
Ah in that way ! so you can move twice in the same turn ? so it make : Mouvement-shoot-movement and you don't have to get charged to activate the rule ? Or it is during the "select the attacking unit" phase ?
Any time they could pile in. But you must finish the move 3 inches away from enemies so it is extremely unlikely you will get two in one turn. But you could charge for extra movement then choose them to go first and use wary fighter to get away risky but if you have some good support, like your trog or steg charging the same unit it can be a good gambit.
I'm sorry but i don't get it... This rule, also in french does not make sense to me. Like i see the rules, the only moment you pile in, is when attack in melee phase. So a this time, your opponent have charged you. If i understand you it is When the unit are selected to attack so it's like this - Enemy charge and engage - Enemy select is unit to attack - Seraph unit decide to run away - Enemy cannot throw his dices to attack
You can charge wih skinks, put all of your skinks within half an inch, but do not make base contact, still your turn in combat you pile in, but use wary fighter to move away from the enemy you just charged. This way you move, shoot, charge, wary fighter move away. This gives you a ton of extra movement and allows them to move quickly to a new target. But keep that enemy distracted.
I don't see the point here. If i charge i get closer, and i don't want that. But yes if the ennemy is very close and about to leave the board its a good technique to get closer... but the enemy will still engage after that. Maybe it's the wording "pile in" it make no sense for me. If im already engage, i just have to count model that are in range and then throw the dices. That what it means. Does it mean i can disengage when it's my turn and instead of the combat phase ? In that case, if the enemy charge me, i have to take damage in melee. I'm lost
Haha! It is not the best tactic, but it's good for mobility. Okay so when it comes to combat phase if enemy charges them you hope he has another target. Two combats or more. Let's say you have a stegadon still in combat from the previous round. In the combat phase he will pile in (move 3 inches to the closest enemy model. ) to the steg. He resolves that, now you choose the next combat. Instead of attacking back with the steg you choose skinks and use wary fighter. Instead of moving 3 inches closer they move 8 inches away. This only is really effective if you have another combat in place otherwise your skinks will be slaughtered and you are just moving the few survivors.
What i understand with "Pile in" is the 3" free movement allowed for engagement : Each time i read the rules i understand differently... so Attacking is : Player A : move 3" Player B : move 3" Player A : attack Player B : attack Or : Player A : move 3" Player A : attack Player B : move 3" Player B : attack
So, it's only working during the Seraphon player turns ! not when you get charged. Skinks are not untouchable as describes in many tacticas (some says that when you are charge, you can flee). This time you can flee, but take casulties before !
Yes i see that, but it's the only way. If the guy really want your skinks down, it will be easy for him to choose only them. But yeah it allows you to get out and fire the same turn instead of getting buchered during your turn if there are survivors, that's a good thing
Yay, 'ive done a demo this week end with some Sigmarite guys. and a new question spawn : Can i make an army with both : Shadow strike bataillion AND Skink patrol ?
I don't think so, Skink patrol was the first released but Shadow strike is from the Seraphon codex which replaces the first release.
But they are both in the general Handbook, with differents names and point cost (and one ultra small differencies inside). :° no ?
