    hej all,

i just picked up playing AOS and i realy like all of it! ofcourse i have chosen seraphon and at a local store we started a campaigne for beginners.(what is perfect becaus i'm totaly new to miniature games)
we are a +-20man campaigne (dont know how its gonna go) and everybody picked up a start collecting box. one month later we will choose an extra unit that is not a hero or a monster the month after that we are gonna choose a monster and finaly a month later we choose a hero. every month we do a battle and can only field the (minimum3 colour) painted ones(not gonna be a problem there) . this is how we build our armys till in the end we will have a major battle!!

now i'm realy stuck on what to pick every month. haven't played mutch yet so i dont realy know what play style like but that doesnt take away the faqt that winning is fun! :D

so do you guys got some tips for me?

was thinking of going for one of these maybe...
    -guard-bastilodon-slann (defensive)
    -knights-stegadon-carnosaur or starseer (offensive)
    -chameo skinks-troglodon-priest or sunblood
-other suggestions are more then welcome to :)

(i magnatized the carno on advise of a friend so i can go scarvet or oldblood but dont know what to use yet...)

    thanks for the help! ;)

Smart to keep the carno available as either. I would use that third head included for one of your knights to make it a scar vet. Use the skink from the trog as a starpriest. It will save you a bit in the end. As far as your next move I would consider the bastiladon or the Stegadon. Then eternity warden or sunblood. Trust me when I say that building up to a bloodclaw starhost will be a great way to get an idea of what your different heroes can do. By 2000 points you're going to want a slann and/or a shadowstrike starhost.

what would you choose for first unit option? i need to pick a "non monster-non hero" unit.
isnt it better to take the sunblood becaus i dont have any guards that would help with the warden?

    thanks for the info :)

I guess that non hero means you are not allowed to choose sunblood or warden this time... As they are heroes ;)... So your choice will be between chamo skinks, regular skinks, guards, warriors, riders, maybe kroxigors, sallies/razors or the flying units rippers and terradons. Not sure if the last three count as monsters...
My suggestion would be to increase the number of warriors or knights... slightly favouring the warriors...
Or to get some skinks (of any kind)...
Also I would take a look what your friends are going to get for their armies...

I might do the knights, take an eternal starhost into battle, but if you don't feel that is your playstyle, then I would go for the chameleons hands down. Brilliant unit, pop in and out to assassinate. Gives you a bit more shooting and are just a fun unit to play, and will open up other options as you build up.

I agree with chameleon. They are useful in almost any army comp. If you go with something like more knights , they lock you into a particular play style that may not be good or ideal vs some opponents and/or scenario types

I would almost always take the Bastiladon over any unit. But depends on your budget and what you want. That bastiladon is great for holding down until your fighters come in. But if you want the Batallion and don't have enough for the bastiladon then definitely go for the Sunblood.

Can't go wrong with a Bastiladon. It's not the greatest offensive unit but your opponent will NEVER kill it, especially if you back it up with a Slann to give it Mystic Shield

Solar Engine (laser beam) is generally good, if a little inconsistent.
Ark of Sotek (snakes) is fantastic in larger games (1500+) but difficult to get value in smaller games

In general I reccomend the laser beam for a Bastiladon for beginners but the Ark of Sotek is really good when you know what you're doing.

Lazers all the way! Unless you need snakes! If you can get the magnetizing right you should be able to switch it up as your needs change.

Don't think you even need to magnetize. Just build the arc of sotek and the solar engine and set it on top. :)

You can also convert a skink to be a chief and use him as a general and use his command ability for +1 to hit for the bastiladon to mitigate a little bit of the rng. Makes him 3+ 3+ -1rend 2 damage 2d6 attacks and doesn't have. Monster profile. Can't get much better than that for the points value you are playing atm

By monster profile I mean they don't get worse when they get hurt like you see with stegadon and carnosaur. :) Bastiladon are just plain beast mode and hands down the best choice for when it's time to pick a monster to field.

I have an unbuilt dread saurian and if I fielded it I think I would lose some opponents because they would refuse to play

I think it depends, my opponents may let me play it once or twice, but if they feel it is too overpowered they might avoid playing me. But if they find a way to kill it they get the bragging rights!
