If it is for gaming, Spend the time on more troops, if you have time after go through with touch ups and details after. Tabletop quality is all that is needes and will get you playing faster. If it is for display then go for the details now.
Got a new hobby station to help organize the desk. Other projects taking up space on it but should be cleared soon.
State of the forces of the two towers, 1rst edition. I've decided to do a bi-weekly update on the current state of my 1/72 project. Starting today with the forces of darkness. Pictures above, we have 1 horde of pikemen painted awaiting basing, some warriors painted, and a crossbowmen troop in the midst of being based. The crossbowmen may or may not make it into the 2000 PT list. Either way, I will be batch painting bases in groups of 3 to save time. Also pictured, my two ballistae arrived from eccentric Miniatures. With a little conversion they will fit right in. Not pictured, I have two mumakil from harad being worked on. They are the basic elephant toys I mentioned earlier, with scratch built howdahs and greenstuff. I'm waiting on an order from the UK and a care package from a friend in Europe to add crew. I'm also waiting on an order of more half orcs that will fill gaps in my 2k list. Other than that, I should only have to purchase one more set of pikemen to have 2k plus points up and running.
Really cool project! Looking forward to seeing the ballista conversions and really want to see the mumakil conversions! Scratch built howdah will be awesome!
State of the forces of the two towers, 2nd edition: The army as I have it worked out is coming along. Cab have been started, progress on the mumakil, and most of the remaining infantry/cab for 2k are on the painting table. I have a few infantry left to put on stands for painting, and I really only have to build the two ballistae and a couple hero conversions. Pics as follows: howdah and other mumakil business, then saruman on a warg, then the current painting conga lineup.
Everything from that painting queue photo above is painted and awaiting unit basing when I get back from a weekend spent with my lovely wife. Up to 179 minis painted this year so far.
