I keep telling myself that I need to do a KoW army. I have my eye on a Basilean army, but am trying to figure out a way to do it on the cheap.
Infantry and cavalry from Perry Miniatures (horde for £15-20), then you're left with just the more specific units (Elohim, heros etc) from either Mantic or someone else.
Both options look good. I'd seen the Perry miniatures before, but not the Caesar or Italeri. I like the Italeri. $14 per box from Amazon isn't bad and you get the infantry as well. Hmm. I really don't need another project, but...
I appreciate the heads up. Actually, I should probably test some lists out before I commit to buying anything. Maybe push models and movement trays around the dining room table to see what works best. Although, knowing me, I'll still end up with a bit of everything...
How does 1/72 scale models compare to our usual 28mm models ? Taking 1m80 divided by 72 give me 25, so they are simply the old 25mm scale ? Similar to the very old citadel miniatures ?
Here he is, he was painted what feels like a 100 years ago, my painting style has changed a lot since then, I will probably add a couple of extreme highlights to make it look better. Also his tail broke while he was stored somehow, I really hate those old Bretonnian Horses tails. He has my first last name Heraldy:
I see what you mean about a change in style, it's actually good to see how much you have developed. I love the freehand work.
With some quick online research, it looks like the Italeri Crusaders average 23.5 mm. Actually, they might be a better choice than the Perry miniatures. If I use Reaper paladins, clerics, and wizards for my heroes, the 25mm heroes will look subtlely bigger than my basic troops.
Very true. Plastics soldier review.com is your friend. I would recommend the Caesar 13th century knights on foot and crusaders on foot for use as brotherhood on foot or foot guard.
Whelp the 2000 PT start to my forces of the two towers is 90% there. 3 characters 6 berzerker 1 mumakil with crew And the remainder of a unit of pikemen are all that is left to paint Then it's on to some haradrim and W few warriors of Gondor for the free peoples
I haven't bought any troops yet, but I picked up a hero and an eagle to paint up as a phoenix. Not sure on the sculpt, but I'll paint it up and see. If worst comes to worst, I have a young fire dragon I painted up that I can proxy. Now I just have to work out the optimum units for a Basilean army and work towards buying and painting them.
