What brand of clay are you using for your bases? I just unpacked my DAS last night and it's gone weird, either too crumbly or too wet - might be reacting differently as we have super hard water in our new house. Or it might have gone bad having been sat in the pack for 2 months...
One in possession 3 in the mail. If this works and gets me some sales, I'll be completing the collection and suggesting more texture possibilities to GSW
What is this you say? A new space Marine legion? Has Guiliman lost his mind or does he just not like current color pallets? Ah well, if it's for the safety of the imperium.
While I would rather paint them Roman red, it will most likely be ultramarines. This was a business idea, as I have deck plating bases I am coming out with for my store and figured having something to show them off with would be a good idea
I am more of a fan of the Black Templars myself, but any loyal sons of the EMPRAH are to be welcomed. Good luck painting them, a fully-painted Ultramarine army would be one of the most classic looks in the entire warhammer range. Any specific theme you are looking for?
I literally want to make them look like the toman legion of space Marines, hence my idea of painting them red, but again, ultramarines do work.
That is a good question, here are the options I see right now as far as what chapters I have found with a Roman-esque flavor to them. I personally would shy away from a strickly custom "twenty first" legion and instead modify one of the companies of an original legion to make it look more "roman." I have split them between Legions in 30K and chapters closer to 40K. The other good option is the Legio Custodes (the bodyguards of the EMPRAH) but they are a bit too gold-covered in my opinion to pass as "roman" but the influence is there. in 30K: - Ultramarines- the good guys in blue, they look great. And that primarch is straight up a Roman commander. Colors are of course blue, with lots of white and gold bits. Spoiler: Ultramarines 30K (link) - Iron Hands: because of their terminators. They are more of a favorite of mine though, I always saw them as more "greek" themed due to the Medusa name of their homeworld. Colors are black and white, but this picture has a lot of red and bronzed stuff too. Spoiler: Iron Hands 30K in 40K - Ultramarines- again, look great in both milleniums. Spoiler: Ultramarines 40K (link) - Iron Snakes- They live under the ammonium seas of their homeworld I think. Secretive empire; their color scheme always looked Roman to me. Lots of "roman mosaic" potential. Colors are silver, chapter colors are white and blue, and plenty of red trim on the details. Spoiler: Iron Snakes (lore) - Minotaurs. Another more "greek" themed chapter, but still look awesome. Mostly bronzed armor, red cloth capes. Though the chapter-master model is an expensive Forgeworld one, it is just so awesome. Spoiler: Minotaurs Normally they look more bronzed than in this picture, but I kept this one to show the "roman/greek-themed" look. (lore) - The Astral Claws/ The Tyrant's Legion- for more of an edgy feel, except they are traitors in the end. Before they turned completely traitor (or maybe after, not sure) their color scheme was silver, with blue and white heraldry, and bronze/gold details. Spoiler: Astral Claws/Tyrant's Legion (link) (lore) At the end of the day there is a HUGE amount of lore out there for each of these space marine groups, this is only the top chapters I found on a quick search. I would go with the color scheme you like the best, that is how I always pick.
I decided on ultramarines. However, I dislike the edging of each armor plate in gold. Alot of my plates will, as such, remain without excess trimming. Current progress. This is going to be a very slow grow force, but I think it will be fun.
They look great. Classic colours, the gold really pops! Definitely need some transfers or some free hand decoration of some sort though.
