I can understand and respect your opinion - I felt the same when I first saw Phantom Menace, but I felt the main characters were pretty weak really. Luke was an idiot (not to mention ridiculously lucky), Darth Vader didn't seem that threatening to me and Boba is useless in the films. In fact the character I feel was best in Empire was this chap, even though he only appears for a couple of seconds: Quite relevant for a Lizardman forum don't you think? He also is going to replace Boba in the rewrite of Empire I'll do when I've finished the one for IV (Spoiler).
Anyone else remember these ? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ewoks:_The_Battle_for_Endor https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caravan_of_Courage:_An_Ewok_Adventure
I'm torned between ep. V and VI. In the end I gave my vote to V, it's a "darker" movie and with a costant quality... ep. VI, even if it has great cool battle scenes and Luke is now a developed character, contains also not-so-memorable moments.
Why does everyone think 5 is dark? I think 3 is certainly much darker. In 5 the Rebels don't even suffer much of a defeat because they only lose some soldiers and snowspeeders on Hoth and blinking Han 'Happy-Go-Lucky' Solo gets captured by the worst Bounty Hunter in the films. Seriously? And also I thought Luke was a lot better in 6 because he wasn't an idiot like he was in 5.
I didn't say V is darker than III, I said it's darker than VI. III is probably the darkest one, but it's not running for victory, which is a matter between V and VI (for my tastes). IMO III can at most run for the third place.
You guys are all crazy. Episodes III & V are nowhere near the darkest. Everyone knows that episode II is the darkest:
I can understand that. Well not the sand bit. 2 is dark because of the fear that is spreading through the Republic since the events of 1, the fear of the possible escalation of the Separatist Crisis into an all-out war, which is what eventually happened. It was then fear of the strife going on between the Republic and the Separatists during the Clone Wars that drew people towards Palpatine's secure Empire in 3, because they were all fed up of constant warfare and scared for their lives. They were so fed-up and scared that they saw a dictatorship under the strong leadership of Palpatine to be the only solution, hence the applause for the declaration of the Empire in 3. By the time of Rogue One and IV many people saw the Rebels as terrorists who sought to bring back the chaos of the Clone Wars, and Saw Gerrerra's Rebel cell was the epitome of this, but the mainstream Rebel Alliance didn't want this - they wanted the people to see that they could provide both security as the New Republic and freedom, which the Empire refused to give. So yes, I feel that the Prequels, Rogue One and even 4 were darker than 5 by any means because in 5 there was less fear of the Empire in a way because more people were supporting the Rebels when they heard of the destruction of the first Death Star, and the actual defeat they suffered on Hoth was more of a 'minor setback'.
Actually I was referring specifically to the sand bit. The darkest moment in Star Wars! In reality, I still maintain that episodes 3 and 5 are the darkest.
Hmmm 3 and 5 you say, what about those little evil ewoks........ (3 is the darkest, the making of Vader is brilliantly done)
