After finding out everyone's favourite and least favourite Star Wars characters, I'm going to give Trek the same treatment. Here are the series I've seen in order:
    1. Deep Space Nine
    2. Voyager
    3. Next Generation
    4. Enterprise
    5. Original Series

I'll probably be shouted down yet again by scores of Captain Kirk fans, but I felt that TOS was like the Clone Wars - there were some excellent episodes and some truly rubbish ones in my eye. Here are the films I've seen in order, including Kelvin Timeline:

    1. Generations
    2. Nemesis
    3. Beyond
    4. First Contact
    5. Undiscovered Country
    6. Star Trek 2009
    7. Into Darkness
    8. Insurrection
    9. Wrath of Khan
    10. Voyage Home
    11. Search for Spock
    12. Motion Picture
    13. Final Frontier

Here are my top 10 favourite characters:

    1. Elim Garak (DS9)
    2. Rom (DS9)
    3. Captain Picard (TNG)
    4. Data (TNG)
    5. Captain Sisko (DS9)
    6. The Doctor (VOY)
    7. Odo (DS9)
    8. Neelix (VOY)
    9. Worf (TNG + DS9)
    10. Spock (TOS + TNG)

Tough call, I have never seen a full series. Most of what I know I researched in order to make star trek references. Loke that one time I wanted to do a a star trek rock opera, using interesting characters like Q, Odo, and the brown alien dude from the cartoonm

What's the Kelvin Timeline? I recall an original series episode that involved either Kelvans or Kelvins...??...(they were aliens from the Andromeda galaxy.)

I am definitely a big star trek fan so I will add my thoughts :vulcan:

    Series:

    1) Original Series- I grew up watching this series as a kid. Nowadays, most of the episodes seem... silly. But for nostalgia sake I still really enjoy them, the characters are overall still my favorites, and some of the classic episodes are definitely still my favorites. Even though overall I think the next two are better, I always put this one first just because.

    2) Next Generation- I also saw some of this as a kid, but not as much. When I was really little I thought my grandpa was captain picard (because they were both bald) but I figured out when I was older that this wasn't the case (I think my mom broke the news to me). I also loved the series itself, it was the flowering of the Original Series on a good budget and with "better" actors.

    3) Deep Space Nine- some days this one winds up in the number 1 or 2 spot, because as a collective series I enjoyed the story so much. I only watched this one within the last 5 years. I loved how much the characters and the setting changed throughout the story, it really went somewhere, and I hope the new Star Trek Discovery series does something similar. Loved the characters too.

    4) Voyager- Watched this one a few years ago, right after Deep Space Nine, but overall was disappointed. Some of the episodes and characters were great; it was really trying to go back to the roots established in the Original Series but with a more modern approach, but parts of it were stale to me. Didn't care for it much, despite the Janeway character being good.

    5) Enterprise- didn't care for it, other than the "pre-original-series" nostalgia easter eggs, and the andorians.

    Episodes:

    1) Inner Light (TNG)- the one where Picard lives out his life on an alien planet and grows old.

    2) Space Seed (TOS)- first appearance of KHAAAAN, most awesome bad guy of the original series, so good they made a movie for him too.

    3) Mirror Mirror (TOS)- alternate reality where Spock has a beard. Also Uhura. Need I say more.

    4) All Good Things (TNG)- two parter, final episodes of the Next Generation. Giant Q mind-screw across multiple time periods.

    5) Trials and Tribulations (DS9)- The Deep Space 9 crew go back in time... and see Kirk and the Enterprise! And tribbles, huge nostalgia episode that I loved.

    6) Living Witness (VOY)- my really only favorite Voyager episode. 700 years in the future after the Voyager visited their planet, the aliens come to realize that history is not the same as they remembered it, thanks to a surviving backup of the Doctor's hologram.

    7) In the Pale Moonlight (DS9)- amazing episode, a conspiracy is underfoot. Can't say more, its awesome and a great story.

    8) Chain of Command (TNG)- THERE ARE FOUR LIGHTS!

    9) Darmok (TNG)- Shaka, when the Walls Fell. Interesting take on extraterrestrial communications. Fascinating episode.

    10) Badda-Bing Badda-Bang (DS9)- the crew of DS9 helps out their holodeck friend Vic Fontaine (basically an Oceans 11 kind of episode, but it was quite enjoyable).

    11) Arena (TOS)- its so campy and bad, but it has the gorn fight with Captain Kirk. Love it still.

    Movies:

Overall I didn't care for any of the movies as much as I enjoyed watching the tv series themselves, but these are my favorites.

    1) First Contact (TNG)- has the borg, Picard is brought to his breaking point, and time travel of a momentus event. Also technically the start of the Enterprise series, lost of footage was used from this episode.

    2) Wrath of Khan (TOS)- because Kirk and Khan.

    They fight.

    In space.

    3) Undiscovered Country (TOS)- Kirk and friends defeat a Russian conspiracy and help the thaw of the cold war.

    4) Star Trek (2009) (TOS Kelvin Timeline)- I really enjoyed this movie, definitely more than the most recent two, but not as much as the originals. Very pretty to look at, the opening with the Kelvin was AWESOME.

    5) Insurrection (TNG)- it was ok, but didn't start that great. Better than the rest in my opinion though.

    Characters:

    In no particular order:

Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty, Uhura, Sulu, Khan
    Picard, Data, Q, Guinan
Quark, Sisko, Garek, that evil Cardassian guy who kept switching sides the entire series (edit: Gul Dukat)
That Andorian guy from Enterprise (edit: Shran)

Its the "new timeline" created by the most recent Star Trek movies (2009+).

They diverged from the "original series" timeline after the NCC Kelvin was destroyed by time-travelling Romulans.

    OK

I have seen two Joss Wheedan ST movies but that trivia nugget escaped my notice.

Also, gotta be: USS Kelvin, NCC-54321** (the NCC is part of the hull number. **I didn't look up the number.)

So nobody is bringing up the series "Enterprise"? I didn't watch it, but I do recall it existing. Did anyone watch it?

Garak is my fave as well, and the other Cardassian you mean is Gul Dukat. I don't think he was evil per se until Damar (his lieutenant and later the Cardassian leader) shot his daughter - that was the last straw that really tipped him over the edge and drove him completely mad. Before he joined the Dominion he was fighting against the Klingons who were being controlled by a Changeling at the time (basically pawns of the Dominion) and when he joined the Dominion he believed it was in the best interests of his people, who he thought the Dominion would protect better than the Federation, which in some cases they did, namely eradicating the Maquis. In fact I thought Kai Winn was more evil than Dukat because she basically killed Vedek Bareil and was always causing trouble for Captain Sisko.

Don't forget the DS9 episode where they played baseball against a Vulcan team. I think it was called 'take me out to the Holosuite' or something along those lines. I thought that one was hilarious. I also liked What You Leave Behind from DS9 (the last ever douible-part episode) because it was so poignant, and all the episodes with Ishka and Zek because they were so funny.

I mentioned it, but other than the nostalgia piece (many references to TOS technology first being developed throughout the series) I wasnt really a fan.

Although I did enjoy seeing the founding of the federation, though I was hoping for more. And I loved the Andorians, especially this guy:

    Shran.jpg

I figured out his name was Shran. The actor also played one of the key villains in DS9.

I really did enjoy the entire final arc of DS9. Conspiracies, changlings impersonating government leaders, plus the huge amount we learn about the klingon empire was fantastic. And the religious-corruption-politics-intrique of Bajor was very well done.

I did enjoy the baseball episode, that was a good one. I was also definately a fan of all the Quark episodes sprinkled throughout, mostly just the relationship he had with the rest of the DS9 crew. And the episode "Who Mourns for Morn" was fantastic (the one about the stolen latinum).

Yes the irony of finding Morn still alive after all the trouble of getting his latinum and finding he had it stored in his stomach all the time was hilarious.

Ah yes I recognise Shran. Wasn't it the chap who played Weyoun and Brunt?

I used to love Star Trek TNG. I think I still do. I loved how many things in the universe actually kinda make sense and technology is pretty well explained (up to a point of course, it is still SciFi). I had a book that explained all the techno-babble so well, it was like written by the engineers who built the Enterprise....which it kinda was really, it was written by Michael Okuda.

    Ranking of series:
    TNG
    DS9
    Voyager
    TOS
    Enterprise

All of them are hit and miss, there are very good episodes and very bad. I like those that really delve into real-world problems without using the real world, discussing them from outside. There are SO many of those.

Ranking of movies that I've seen (roughly):
    8
    2
    9
    7
    4
    6
    5
    11
    12
    3
    1
    10

Characters from the top of my head:
Picard, Data, Spock (actually even Quinto's version despite some meh moments), Odo, Dax, Worf, Garak, Barclay, Bashir (the latter two ones only after the writers made them less one-dimensional).

I was talking to another star trek friend this weekend, and I was reminde that I forgot about one of the best TNG episodes when I made my list:

Yesterday's Enterprise- The one where the Enterprise C comes out of the past and meets the Enterprise D (with Picard), which alters the future to where the Enterprise is now a battleship fighting a decades long war against the Klingons due to the altered timeline. Episode features the return of a long-dead crewman Tasha Yar. Episode is pretty good, with the crew of the Enterprise C slowly realizing that they got to get back, back to the past...

Yes that was a good one too, although my favourite TNG episodes have got to be Elementary, Dear Data (Data Holmes and Geordi Watson) and A Fistful of Datas (Wild West Alexander, Worf and Data), along with all the ones with Q in them
