@Wazz have you had a chance to face off against the wood elves yet? They are the main army my Lizardmen have really (ever) faced off against, except for some Beastmen and some practice battles versus my Bretonnians.

I agree with this. Wood Elves are good at fighting at a distance, so any reasons to give your Wood Elf opponent to come to you is super helpful. The closer he gets to you, the better chances you have of getting a saurus cavalry charge off, or munching him with your close combat units.

On a side note, back when Dryads were skirmishers I felt they were more dangerous; when the Wood Elf book was updated and they became ranked units I felt they suddenly were less effective as a fighting force, because they were easier for the Lizardmen to counter. The dryads as skirmishing dedicated combat troops always seemed to munch through my skinks...

That being said, clouds of skinks are your friend. Despite the fact that they drop like flies in front of Wood Elf bows, I would rather my opponent shoot down my 75ish point units of skinks versus my 200+ unit saurus infantry or stegadon.

Agreed, Dryads are now considered to be a sub-optimal choice in the Wood Elves revamped 8th edition army book.

That is a great point. Also, Skinks themselves can do a huge amount of damage to fragile and expensive wood elves units. With the ability to march and shoot, Skink skirmishers have a huge effective range and can mow WE units that would be otherwise very difficult for us to pin down.
