The new tank/artillary piece for the Death guard. I dunno but i kinda like it, and i kinda don't like it. Looks very reminicent of old WW2 artillary tanks.
Same here. I like the lascannons and the frontal armour, but the back slope and the positioning of the gun feel... off.
In fact Space Marines have been in every boxed game since 2nd Edition when the first one came out - Blood Angels VS Orks, then Black Templars VS Dark Eldar in 3rd Ed, Ultramarines VS Tyranids in 4th Edition (Battle for Macragge), generic Space Marines VS Orks in 5th Edition (Assault on Black Reach), Dark Angels VS generic Chaos Space Marines in 6th and 7th Edition (Dark Vengeance) and finally, most boring one of all, Ultramarines VS Death Guard (why Death Guard of all factions???) in 8th Edition (Dark Imperium, Know No Fear and First Strike). No no, I agree mate, I really do. I'm really annoyed that they keep going back to not only Stormcast but ugly Sylvaneth and don't give the Fyreslayers or Kharadron Start Collecting sets. I was just saying that Stormcast have some differences. In fact I prefer them to Sylvaneth because I just can't stand Alarielle (of all the characters in fantasy, why did they bring her back, and also make her ridiculously OP? She wasn't in the miniatures game until 8th Ed), Drycha Hamadreth and the Revenants because I just think they're so ugly - why do GW give them so much more glory than Fyreslayers? True they did dedicate 2 issues to Kharadron but they'll probably fade into the shadows after a while. That's another thing - I'm sure Flesh Easter courts are overpowered too. If those Vampire scum hadn't kept bringing on more Ghouls and Horrors the Kharadron would have annihilated them.
GW sure do love their Speeshgs Mahreehens. The reason they make so many releases which contain SM, is because they sell really well. If another faction sold just as much as the Adeptus Astartes, let's say Necrons, there would be a lot more releases, novels and starter sets with them in. Death Guard have been my favorite Chaos legion since i knew about the forces of Chaos... While i would appreciate they focused less on SM and other power armor wearing weirdos, this is pretty much the best faction they could have picked, but that's just my opinion. As stated before, it's because they sell much better than those other factions. regarding Alarielle, i like her miniature but her story and lore is very chessy and mediocre. The reason she is so OP, well, SHE IS LITERALLY A GOD AMONGST MERE MORTALS, OFCOURSE SHE IS GOING TOO BE OP AS LIVING F#%&.
I'm fairly sure these guys were Ultramarines as well, but they had decals instead of the molded on chapter iconography. Honestly, I don't see any faction OTHER than Space Marines of some flavour representing the Imperium in the starter boxes. Obvious cash-cow status aside, they're a VERY easy army to learn the basics of and have an enormous range available to expand into (thus perpetuating their popularity and milking that damn cow!). Hell I did it back in 5th and wound up with a fairly large Black Templar force. They're also the face of 40k - as important to the imagery of the franchise as the Aquila. Any old scifi setting can have space elves, slick hi-tech aliens, deathless robot armies, human soldiers and whatnot, the Space Marine and Chaos is what set's 40k apart and that is SUPER important for GW, as seen from AoS. As a long term Chaos player... no idea. They couldn't ignore Chaos altogether coming in to the new edition after the events of the Gathering Storm. The background in the new rulebook has a very heavy Chaos presence. I mean the Great Rift is basically a galaxy-spanning extension of the Eye of Terror, half the Imperium is plunged into darkness and preyed upon by the forces of darkness, Cadia is ruined, Terra was invaded by Daemons, the Thousand Sons have relocated to Prospero following the battle at Fenris and Magnus's defeat at Luna. Shit is going down! But... why on earth Death Guard vs Ultramarines? Apparently Mortarion has a beef with Guilliman, but it seems Fulgrim and Magnus want a shot at him too (Magnus already being beaten on Luna), and Lorgar's dislike of him goes back to before the Heresy was even an idea! Logically it should have been Black Legion - the most vanilla of Chaos vs the most vanilla of Space Marines. Black Legion already have a MASSIVE presence on the Ultramarines turf and invaded Maccragge itself. It would have given GW the perfect opportunity to replace the horrid existing plastic CSM kits with something more akin to the newer Raptors or Chosen from Dark Vengeance, maybe even release a multi-purpose kit for Chosen/Havocs. Like with Space Marines in general, Black Legion has the most options available and would be a good starter army to expand on. EDIT: Also Abaddon needs a new model desperately. He's supposed to be THE Big Bad Chaos Warlord, burner of worlds, slaughterer of billions, supreme champion of all the gods. But he is tiny and unimpressive...
Would be nice to see Abaddon with a new model, he's been rocking the same one for like 20 years at this point...
Right on the money. The reason they choose Death Guard and not something like the black Legion is because they want a more evident contrast between the 2 factions. 8th edition is going too focus heavily upon Emperium vs Chaos, and they want Chaos to become less attached too the asthetics of the Emperium. So at the end of the day, what is the Black Legion besides SM painted black and gold? For a new player that might look a little boring and unispired. Now look at the Death Guard, horribly mutated abominations that has lost all humanity and wishes too turn the galaxy into a gas station toilet. You don't need to read their lore too understand who they are and what they want, all you have too do is look at them. That is what i mean by more evident contrast. On one side you have the regular SM, Champions of humanity, willing too fight the most horrible creatures and nefarious foes, beacons of light and hope in galaxy of endless war. On the other side is the Death Guard. Bloated, disease ridden, mutated monstrosities who have given up their humanity for eternal life and the promise of revenge against the hated Emperium.
They were Ultramarines on the box and provided Ulramarine transfers but could be painted up as any kind of ordinary Space Marine chapter - for example in the White Dwarf celebrating the arrival of 6th Edition one chap painted the Assault on Black Reach army up as White Scars. Abaddon may need a new model, but it will probably be ridiculously overpowered and ridiculously expensive, and he will never be as impressive as the Swarmlord...
I think Archaons re-design was a little over the top, disregarding the mount ofcourse. I would like a re - release of Abbadon with a modern sculpt and cleaner aesthetics, nothing too insane. (pls don't turn him into a Demon prince, pls don't turn him into a Demon prince, pls don't turn him into a Demon prince)
Whatever It's because his last redeemable feature is that he isn't a slave to the dark gods, he still has free will. It will also be a very easy way for GW too make a really big daemon model they can charge 150$ for.
Agreed - I also don't want Abaddon to be a Daemon Prince. He is, however, the supreme mortal champion of Chaos. We know the Gods can juice you up to extreme levels without ascension to Daemonhood, so a Guilliman-sized model isn't out of the question. I don't mind if he's covered in bling, Chaos love them some bling, as long as it's not Magnus-level huge so I can actually afford to buy the damned thing!
If you don't check the painting blogs, I finished up the first member of my converted Dark Mechanicus army... http://www.lustria-online.com/threa...-to-kill-some-xenos.19165/page-23#post-199639
