    Hey guys!

Making progress here. I'm pushing the highlights, even though the light on this pic (it's a phone camera, no memory card atm for my actual camera…) kind of merges everything together. :(

Still got a little more work to do on the black, which i've decided to start working on with some blueish grey (old GW shadow grey); then the blue and finishing touches on the beige, pushing near 'pure' white, and finally there will only remain the face and some finishing touches here and there (base…).

Let me know what you think! Advice will be more than welcome on those black parts… Not entirely satisfied with the blue either but it's my first try at fading/blending so I guess that's alright.

Have a lovely weekend everyone :)

Hey fellas! Making progress, I started touching up those black parts. I've always had trouble painting black stuff. Used to just used a highlight of codex grey then one of fortress, but this time around i realised I wasnt happy with that (i found it too brutal and the color seemed somewhat poor compared to what i see on better painters' models) so i thought i'd try another method.
I did a first pretty dark highlight, about maybe 30-70 or 40-60 shadow grey/chaos black, with fairly broad strokes, hoping to bring out the zones where the light would be reflecting, and then a lighter one on some parts of the edges. Still not very happy though, please feel free to share if you have advice with that or anything else… I may have gone for too light a highlight colour too soon or applied it too much. Tell me what you think, help needed :writing:
    Happy new year everyone!!!

    Ahoy! :)
So I moved on to the blue armour parts today, but ended up messing up and really overdoing those highlights, putting way too much white in the mix… now the blue not only doesnt seem natural at all, but also sort of makes all the other, less extremely highlighted colours look dull. (Then again, the pic is not good enough)
Anyway, I need to knock these whitish mistakes back to a darker blue without losing the highlights, if that’s possible. I’m hoping to find the right shade of blue so that make a couple quick glazes make them stand out less without forcing me to paint it all over again…
Has any of you guys dealt with that successfully before? Insight would be much appreciated as usual XD
I'll let you know how it goes anyway.
    Have a great Thursday!

I think the highlights look pretty nice. Very vibrant, almost supernatural.

Thanks… Though as I said, the camera being pretty bad, they are actually brighter than that, which makes it a little too much :hurting:. It's almost pure white! I'm glad you like it anyway, so I'll try and save some of their vividness !!

@ravagekitteh thanks mate ! If you're interested the colours are:
    - Whitish fabric + bone coloured areas (same colours so as to keep it coherent, I just applied one less highlight to the bone parts because they are rather small): built up from scorched brown by progressively adding in some Vomit brown, bleached bone, and then adding some pure white for the highlights
    - Leather: scorched brown+ vomit brow, then bleached bone and elf flesh (to keep it saturated) for highlights.
    - Black: chaos black priming, with a first pretty large contouring of black + shadow grey, then highlighting with more and more shadow grey and adding pure white for the final highlight.
    - Blue: midnight blue (needed because of the black priming), then progressively building up a mix of ultramarine blue, enchanted blue and still some midnight blue and chaos black to make it look a tad less saturated; then highlighting that mix with elf flesh (to make it a bit warmer without looking weird bc of the desaturation I used at first) and white. When highlighting I realised that had got a bit overcomplicated so I'll try and do this differently next time, probably working with shades and glazes instead. Or buy some new paints……… :p

    Hey guys!

Last Scout, I think, is now complete. Here are bad pics for now  ( still havent got around to buying a new memory card it seems).

    So:
    - I glazed down the highlights on the blue parts. Maybe not quite enough but i'm a bit scared it might be too much if I keep going.
    - I painted the face, hair and last details (gem-looking parts on the gun, eye and one in the back)
    - Did a couple freehands on the shoulderpad. The right one still seems sort of empty but I've spent too much time on this model already…………
    - Corrected the base (some of the paint got scraped off when I was painting), added grass.

I'm still having some doubts on the face and hair: do you guys think i should:
    - give them one last round of highlight. I don't want to highlight too much, cf what happened with he blue parts, but maybe that'd make it stand out more and it is after all supposed to be the focal point (or is it? it's half covered in metal, angled away from the body…).
    - or maybe add some glazes to make the face a bit more complex, add some interesting/weirdish colours? I already used a very light glaze of scab red to warm up the colour, and it did make it a bit more flesh-like (too much Elf flesh and white make faces look like parchment, cf the last scout i painted on p.1…) but it also seems to have brought down my highlights.
Actually the pic brings it down a little, the face is actually brighter than it seems on the pic (the highlights are too thin to appear i guess)
(hey @Crowsfoot , @neveroddoreven , @Xlanax_lot , if by chance one of you has a minute to help a brother out here, that would be awesome…… please :bear:)

So I'm kind of confused. :clown: But hey, it's done at last!!!! Next up are Blood bowl goblins, Poxwalkers (I wanted to try painting flesh a bit more, and try my hand at fades and glazes to get weird and make some progress), a Space wolk Fenrisian wolf (my gf's Xmas gift, they are real beauties :D), AND my first ever Lizardmen miniatures: Cold one riders! Dunno what i'll be doing first yet.
    Lovely Sunday boys n girlz!

Kisllev flesh is good for highlights followed by a final highlight of a 50/50 mix with white.

Hey Fellas! Here's a sneak peak at what just found its way onto my table… It's just a test model but still, it is officially the first lizardmen model I ever put a drop of paint on!
For now we've got the primary colours, plus a shade I've applied on the skin. It'll be much paler, almost white, with blue and possibly purple shades..
Cant wait to post more about this fella!

What's with all that blue and purple lately? Seems to be a trendy color these days.
    ...I like it though. :D

Is it? Blue is, after all, GW's go-to lizzie colour… but as i said the blue here is only a wash and I do think i took it too far and got it darker than i meant to. The skin colour I'm going for is pretty close to white.
Also I think the next one will be painted black and orange. I wanted to start with that originally but orange skin seems pretty difficult to pull off, and since this is my first ever white-primed model I thought i might be safer with a colour I know a little better (then again i've never used such light shades, usually it's all shades of Ultramarine blue haha… and never really painted that much skin, usually it's just armour :shifty:). And then I was thinking, probably dark red and dark grey.
In a word, I'm just trying out colour schemes for now and I don't think my models will end up all being blue!! :)

Maybe it is just coincidence but I saw a lot of models lately with some blue+purple combination (think Tzeentch box art but I saw it everywhere from Sylvaneth to Skaven and SCE). You have a point about Seraphon, blue is the most common classic color (I use it as well), I was mainly referring to the other part of the combination, the purple.
Anyway, no critique about your models, they look great! :)

    Hey fellas!!
Little Sunday painting session with good progress.
I 'm starting to brighten up and touch down the skin a little, coming along OK but boy, those grooves on the skin are just impossibly precise. I had to forget about some of them. does anyone have advice on that? (apart from drybrushing cause I decided I wanted to avoid that on this model since i'm trying to work on blends).
Also painted my first layer on the leather parts and tried a fade from blue to grey on the face. We'll see how that goes, if you have advice I'm all ears!!
Next step is to keep going with the skin and work on the bone colour.

    Lovely Sunday everyone :)

Blending from colour to colour can be helped by glazing in thin coats of an appropriate colour, you glaze where the colours meet, apply a few coats and then glaze the whole area.

Thin the shade down so the colour isn’t as strong, it could take 8-10 coats depending on how good you want the fade.
