I got a big surprise this year for Christmas: my own wargame table!

    warden201712_wargame table 01.jpg

A few months ago my wife and I sat down and jotted down some ideas for a future game room, and the wargame table I wanted to build for myself. I took a lot of inspiration from @That1Lizard's wargame table he made, and from this other thread on game rooms/efficient storage space for the hobby.

Little did I know that my wife was actually plotting secretly with a friend of mine. She commisioned my friend to build the table for me! I had no clue it was secretly being built for months. Our friend did a great job, considering this is only his third or fourth woodworking project ever!

The table is 4 feet by 8 feet long, and about 4 feet high. The playing space is covered up with removable boards in the picture (the playing space itself is 4 feet by 6 feet long). The extra two feet on either side are for all the extra stuff that gets in the way while playing warhammer games, such as the books, dice, miniatures who have already died, etc.

A visual with the cat posing for scale:

    warden201712_wargame table 02.jpg

The table is pretty huge, and high enough so that when you are standing you don't need to constantly bend way down to measure distances or move your models across the board, which was something that was a must for me (minimizing back problems!). It totally fills up the game room, which with the addition of two shelves and a small array of pictures is starting to come together:

    warden201712_wargame table 03.jpg

That is a map of the Yucatan Peninsula which we got at Uxmal, showing all the main Mayan cities and ruin sites in the area! Really great map.

I plan to start making a bunch more artwork to hang up around the room too, plus more plans to expand my terrain collection!

No way! I hope to see pics soon. :snaphappy:

I have taken a bunch more...

Here is the table without the wooden top coverings:

    warden201801_wargame table 04.jpg

The wool blanket I have works for now, but I plan to look into getting some felt for the side sections and materials for some custom game-mats. Does anyone have experience making them?

    warden201801_wargame table 05.jpg

It looks great with all the miniatures and terrain deployed!

And here is a better picture of my map of the Mayan world!

    warden201801_wargame table 06 maya poster.jpg
...extra pictures on my painting thread!

Upholstery stores are your friend. I have a number of pieces of vinyl that are useful as gaming "table cloths". (Those could give a good base color that could be embellished with stippled paint.)

And I have one piece of heavy, heavy, cloth that was meant to cover furniture that I swear is "Goblin ***Green" on one side. It also has a slight fuzz / velour texture on that side. (Sorta machine washable static grass...)

***I learned the hard way that if you call the Green Grass color you're trying to find "Goblin Green" within earshot of typical coed clerks that work in high-end upholstery stores :shifty:...they will look at you funny. "Apple Green" is a far more acceptable term in such a venue.

Nice work! Marvel, DC, and Star Trek!
Now you need some Star Wars and Warhammer symbols and it will be perfect. :D

So far I just picked up some green (Caliban green) pieces of felt for the board edges, I will have to look into some vinyl as well. Right now I do want to find a heavier, fuzzy piece of cloth to replace the green wool blanket I have been using for ages.

Yup, right now the inventory is Marvel (Wolverine, Iron Man, CPT America, Avengers symbol), DC (Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern), Star Trek (Feds and Klingons, plus an Original Series calendar), one Samurai Jack painting, and my giant Mayan map. I also hung up some previous WH paintings by the door (old Lustria Online contest entries!) and a wild-west style painting I did, but I plan to do more. Star Wars is a good idea, I will have to see what else. Some more maps would be nice too...

I would recommend Rebellion and Empire logos from Star Wars, and then maybe
    [IMG]

    Or Umbrella Corp?
    Or maybe SHIELD and Hydra
    Or...

I am sure I can find some more.

If you also take some from computer games I'd recommend the Kilrathi Logo from Wing Commander, or maybe the Aperture Science Logo from Portal or the Black Mesa logo from Half Life.

These two will definitely happen next, I am also considering a Black Templars logo, and maybe even some Bretonnian shields. For now though I am happy with the progress!

    95% completed in this picture:

    warden201801_wargame table 10_wall artwork.jpg

Any they look good on the hero wall! Plenty of space for more.

    warden201801_wargame table 11_wall artwork.jpg

I changed the colors a bit for the Iron Man painting from this beautiful original on the internet:

    iron man psychadelic.jpg

The Wolverine poster was inspired by these:

    7ace6b4702aa3c9964b282168e834123--wolverine-art-superhero-poster.jpg

    9c2d8ab752013d7a779ef681e28d5540--wolverine-cartoon-wolverine-poster.jpg

I am hoping to do a composite of these next two for an epic Wonder Woman painting (the movie was great):

    71bd26223571fe4bd7faf11f7f78eb86.jpg

Other ideas include Batman (of course), Black Panther, and Green Lantern at some point. There are so many heroes to choose from, forgetting all the other universes to choose from out there:

    That's really good.
The sad part is that I lack a room for such a beautiful thing...

    Terminator!

Love that table! It looks really good with all your minis on it!

I'd recommend Republic and Separatist symbols from Star Wars. Also I know there is a book called Star Wars Propaganda that includes propaganda posters for Republic, Separatists, Rebellion and Empire definitely, and possibly First Order and New Republic as well. I imagine some of those would look good on your wall as well.

As for Warhammer, if you're a woodworker, perhaps have a go at making a full-size Saurus Warrior shield - that certainly would be impressive! Have a look at pics of the ones in Bugman's Bar for inspiration - I know you're not able to go there unless you take a plane, but have a look at some pics - I know there's definitely a Dwarf shield, Greenskin shields and a Tomb King shield (I've been there), and try to scale those to a Saurus shield and you'll have the approximate size you need.

Looks awesome! I'm hoping to convert my loft into a Warhammer area this year, but I doubt it'll look as good as yours!

You could always line it with a nice classy piece of green felt. :pompus:
