Just seen the results of Heat 1 2018, looks like we have Matthew Gouldsborough 9th place with Seraphon!

I’d be interested if anyone saw his, or any other Seraphon lists from the tournament. We look to have a few good placements there this time!

I already asked over at the TGA forums but unfortunately got no answer there either.
My assumption is that most of the Seraphon lists are
    - Kroaknado variants
    - Thunderquake with EotG + Slann
    - Sunclaw
    - Shadowstrike with Rippers and a bazillion of Skinks

    Unfortunately this is true.
I hate when, after a while, high places in tournaments tend to be occupied by "copy and paste" of the same powerful lists.

Well I can't blame the guys who want to win. If there is only one or two good lists you choose that one I guess.
A properly balanced game should make different play styles effective in a rock paper scissors type of balance. That would encourage people to win the game by using a mixed army and then finding the goid matchups on the table, instead of building the best "ROFLSTOMP" lists that just cannot be countered over and over again. :(

I was there, playing thunderquake. There were at least two other thunderquakes and two kroak lists. Unfortunately I didnt do as well as the others, I narrowly lost my first two games, got ruined after being double turned by tzeentch in the third, then wiped my opponents for two majors on day two. No sunclaws, and ive never heard of the shadowstrike varient but it wasnt there.

Against what armies did you play?
I would love to read a battle report or two... :)

I wrote a brief one on my instagram, a summary of the weekend that ill compypaste here. I had planned more detailed reports but day one I was dying from a poor sleep (dont stay in the brittania in nottingham, its a hole) and a hangover (Do visit the Pit and Pendulum bar, its unreal) so my deployment and note taking sucked.

Game one: very close, came down to a point ot two. Was vs stormcast, fulminators hit my lines, killed skinks, bastillodons dealt with them, and most of the rest of the army, but it came down to objectives and he held one more them me, mission as total conquest. Really the worst mission to play hungover.

Game two: even closer, killed 1600 points of his army and he managed to vanguard wing behind my lines and burn the last objective to push him ahead. 8 liberators vs 7 of my models. I then failed a curse of fates roll with a double one on a unit who then failed their teleport roll tjat would have snagged me the last objective. Probably one of my favorite games of the weekend. Mission was scorched earth.

Game 3: Tzeentch, nuff said, major loss. Double turned me twice, killed my astro and engine, wiped my skinks. Not much of a chance here and I was already exhausted. Tzeentch remain the army I cant seem to beat. Mission was knife to the heart, game ended when he summoned horrors which then summoned plaguebearers onto the objective.

Game 4: more stormcast, thunderquake did work and tore through them. Another great game, opponent went on to take most sporting. Was Starstrike, and skinks did what skinks do.

Game 5: Cabbage patch kids! Triple maw crusha list. Scared me shitless in the first turn and wiped 60 skinks off the board. Then i just had to believe in he bastillodon and charged one to tag two crushas, where it held them for 3 turns taking zero damage. Mission was border war.

Overall I went 2-3, but it was very close and Im happy with the list and most of how I played, it could have easily been 4-1 if I had made a few tweaks to my play. Some lessons the learn but Im happy. Kind of wish Duality had come up as a mission, I would have had no problem there with the number of unkillable beasties in the army.

Unit of the weekend was the bastillodon. Only actually died in one game, close second was the engine who successfully put out d6 mortals every turn.

Meh, it doesn't so much need to be rock paper scissors as much that any play style should be able to win out over any other. A defensive playstyle should be able to deal with an offensive one depending on a combination of luck and who's the better player. Too many games are balanced around the notion that the rock paper scissor thing needs to be implemented strictly and a scissor ends up being utterly incapable of ever beating a rock (provided the rock is not well, stupid as a rock... get it? :D)

Of course there is no need to overdo it but I still think that winning with a one-sided list against a carefully balanced one should be harder. Spamming one unit because it just is the best one against everything is not something I want in a game.

yea, just bringing super unit #23487 is kinda boring... Though at least in the case of AoS the argument can be made that they're balanced on the level of armies, not individual units and armies are (somewhat) different fortunatly.

I'm actually going to heat 2 with a heavenswatch which I think will do well:

    Slann, Great Rememberer
    Starseer, Incandescent Retrices
Skink Priest, Priestly Trappings, Celestial Rites
    Skink Starpriest
Engine of the Gods, Coronial Shield

20 Skinks with blowpipes and shields
10 Skinks with blowpipes and shields
10 Skinks with blowpipes and shields

2 x Bastiladons with Solar Engines
    4 x Razordons

    Heavenswatch starhost

    2000pts

    Heroes 5/6 Battleline 3/- Behemoths 3/4 Artillery 1/4

I 'm having some great time with Heavenswatch, it is actually pretty fun to play and strong.

Main - and probably only - problem I had : When opponent has 2 really important targets that both need to be hurt if only a bit, it has it's problems..

Problem you will probably face with this :
Bodies. The count number is just too small and you won't be able to break the forces enough to most of the scenarios. Unless you got something that you'd like to share with us in mind ;)

I've found that putting the re-roll 1s constellation helps if you have lots of targets.

Bodies is a worry but to be honest I've tried the horde option and it's boring moving so many models! And with so many players trying to counter horde lists now I think this can take a few people by surprise.

Problem with the thunderquake is you really have to stay close for all the buffs, this gives you a lot more mobility.

Totally agree with the thunderquake comment. While it is strong it has some huge disadvantages against some particular armies !
I also agree with the horde comment ! Didn't mean to go the horde way, but 51 bodies *20 of which will go down really fast* may pose problem to some scenarios.
Remember : Your 10 skinks won't be able to skill anything solo - even 1 liberator could survive a round of shooting !

Then again with all this magic, you might get an edge !

    Nice report!

Does anyone have a list of all the armies that were present? I am curious to see what armies was represented.

Doubt any tomb kings or Bretonnians made an appearance :( but glad to see the nuLizardmen had a good showing :D

    Sounds interesting!

What's the spell strategy for that setup: Who casts what and on who?

Curse of fates on the Engine to help control what I roll
Mystic Shield on one basti and summon starlight on the other, try to get celestial rites off on them too before teleporting them to where I want to block (very hard to shift)
Arcane bolt on whichever character is in range
Gift of the heavens for army wide battle shock bonus (found this has helped)

Obviously this changes during the game, I've done Mystic Shield, Summon starlight and the rites on my Engine before if I want it in combat 3+ save -1 to hit with re-rolls can be effective!

The heal a wound for monsters really helps too!

Lot of Tz, lot of stormcast, one rukk, couple of seraphon, some order soup armies, one or two ironjawz, couple of mixed daemon chaos, one slaanesh, and yes there was one brettonian player there.
