I honestly feel bad for all of you people who just woke up, and decided to check the "Fantasy vs AoS" thread.
Well the slann are still very much alive and the sunbloods are too. So those dying is a big deal. However, I'd assume the slann have at least some spawning pools they can acces and that the remembered seraphon are only for particularly harsh fights with high expected losses and emergencies. For one if all the seraphon are summonend by the slann it'd make it impossible for them to maintain a presence in a conquere area without the slann constantly maintaining the summon, which seems far too tiring even for a slann. Also there is some fluff about feats of strength of several named eternity wardens in the AoS, since they're named I'd assume they're actually alive and not mere summons since it'd be stupid... So we do have at least some living seraphon, it's just unclear how many there are... To be honest most of the seraphon fluff is a bit odd and unclear, they only act on cold logic but in malign portents they join sigmar cuz of some ancient pact or some such nonsense... As for the demons, they're equally immortal in all variations of warhammer so you can't blame that on AoS
At least we didn't argue on Star Wars! In fact, most of our argument was on AoS vs WFB so we weren't really that "off topic".
Age of Copyright is so ridiculously stupid I can't even But I'd like to.chime in on the assumption that more complex, unforgiving tactics (e.g. movement in 8th) is better. The game is daunting for newcomers and I think some move to simplicity, particularly "simple but with depth" is a good thing
I think the general consensus is we like the way the rules have changed, or can at least tolerate it, but despise the way the fluff has been irreparably altered, and the Old World has been killed off so they can get those sweet copyrightable names, while introducing newer, unlikable factions to replace the coolness of the Empire and other Old World forces, like the Sigmarines, while also shoving factions they didn't really feel like developing anymore, such as the Tomb Kings, to the side by conveniently killing them off during the End Times. As far as rules go, while I generally don't like comparing table tops to video games, Monster Hunter World is a good comparison to the Warhammer view on the AoS rules. Some hardcore fans don't like it, because they feel like it's a watered down, unintelligent form of their complex, unforgiving game, and don't like that it's appealing to new players, while all the other hardcore players see it for what it is, a somewhat simplified version of the usual Monster Hunter formula, intended to draw in a new generation of Monster Hunter players while also maintaining enough complexity and depth for more experienced players of the franchise to enjoy. Except, you know, Capcom didn't destroy every story and monster that was in the older games, crush it beneath their heel, and grind it into dust before the horrified eyes of their playerbase, while cackling maniacally as they introduced a new, painfully similar, but not quite the same, world in which new Monster Hunters will take place, like GW did.
I can say with a high level of certainty that I would not be here if the most recent edition was still 8th Edition WHFB. That doesn't say I wouldn't like many things better, but that ruleset was everything but beginner-friendly. And even lore-wise... AoS isn't too bad, it is just... painful for people who liked the old lore, I totally see that. As a oldschool WHFB lore scholar I would probably not like AoS at all. But as someone new, from outside.... actually many many parts of the old WHFB lore aren't quite up my ally either, to say the least.
I said we can tolerate it, not that we have to like it. AoS has it's flaws, but so did Fantasy, so does 40k, and so has every other Wargame since the dawn of time. Also yes, I know that you're mostly kidding, the memes are a fairly good tipoff to when you're joking about something.
Those are fair points. WFB 8th edition was definitely quite difficult to get into for someone who was not already familiar with wargaming. I myself started in 40k, jumped to 7th edition WFB and finally transitioned into 8th edition. Some people can tolerate it, many others (myself included) could not. I've stayed with 8th edition, while many moved to KoW or T9A. Then there were those that as you say could tolerate or even liked the AoS rule set. Obviously, anyone starting fresh into the hobby will naturally play the current game.
