That's something I really liked about WFB. Sure the armies weren't completely level in terms of support or model range, but each of them still had a significant faction.
But each army had a significant force. I already acknowledged that differences exist between them. However, they can all stand on their own two feet.
How are they the same flavour? I'm talking about armies (not chaos gods), how are Vampire Counts, Orcs & Goblins, High Elves, Skaven, Bretonnia the same?
But the Chaos gods all fit within the umbrella of the army book. Just like different cities in the Empire. Or Skaven factions. The actual chaos armies, WoC, DoC & Beastmen are significantly different.
It is listed in the app as a faction, and also in the allies entries for other GA Destruction armies. It is also a faction in the official Warscroll Builder.
OK. That is just weird. Clearly “Faction” has diminished in meaning. [?] Once upon an 8th Edition: Faction = Armybook Who here understands AoS well enough to explain Faction/Allegiance/Armybooks as they are now defined?
Should it be this hard to define it? If it is, then that is a fairly substantial problem. I think in time GW will get rid of these micro factions in place of the real ones that actually resemble an army of sorts.
Faction is a list of models that belong to a particular group Allegiance is where a Faction can join another Faction in battle, they can also fall into a Grand alliance army and then fall under one of the 4 alliances. Armybooks give special rules for the faction AOS has some really stupid Factions that should be either discontinued or merged with others.

A Battletome (the new name for army books I guess) will flesh them out with things like bataillion warscrolls, artefacts, spell lore etc. Allegiances enable allegiance abilities such as Command Traits for the general, artefacts, and other special abilities (called allegiance abilities). You can always either use: - the Grand Alliance (Chaos, Destruction, Order, Death), this is used for mixed armies or armies that don't have own allegiance abilities - the army's own allegiance. That's usually the case for armies that hae a Battletome, but there are also some armies that did not receive a Battletome and GW just put two pages ito the GHB2017 with a few artefacts, command traits and so on. So the GHB2017 is a "Battletome light" for those armies, just with rules but without spell lore for example. All units in a list must have the name of that allegiance on their warscroll, except a few points that you can spend for allies. Allies in the list don't break allegiance but don't profit from the abilities either. So for example you could use an Aleguzzler Gargant in a Bonesplitterz allegiance army, but their 6+ ward save (a Bonesplitterz allegiance ability) would not work for him. EDIT: To be fair, GW did that to keep those models/factions playable in some way, but I still agree: A bit of spring cleaning would be in order there.
