No, I enjoy the companies. It's just a lot of the companies I follow use kickstarter

I've never taken part in a kickstarter myself... but I applaud the effort.

Honestly thier not bad. If it's a newer company though treat it as a fire and forget and either be pleasantly surprised or slightly miffed

Risk aversion... I'd be more than slightly miffed.

Fair enough. I come from a background of "calculated risks are inevitable"

As do I. It of course comes down to those calculations.

FB_IMG_1525699726095.jpg Fire arrows for The Bowmen. Also apparently the kickstarter is coming in September so at least we have a rough estimate of time frame.

I really wish they would show actual models as opposed to computer renders. It would give a much more realistic impression.

CAD is over taking the sculpting part of the industry. There are a few test prints of the guys in the first few posts of the thread

I don't mind CAD sculpting, but before buying a model I personally need to see a picture of the actual model. I need to get a better sense of the CAD to model transition... which is not always perfect.

I prefer the GW system, where they provide pictures of the actual models, even though they were sculpted in CAD. That said, I understand that GW is in the financial position to do so.

For sure. I would simply wait until the models become available and skip the whole kickstarter phase.

Agreed. Also I don’t believe that investing in Kickstarters is a good idea - have a look at Alien VS Predator in my thread about it. According to some of the grumblers on DakkaDakka it took ages for Prodos’ Kickstarter stuff to be sent out to the investors. I see it as being a bit like investing in shares except for wargaming.

I’d rather wait until the minis come out and then buy them at my own pace and with the knowledge that they would arrive at my house very soon.

While I completely understand this, I treat kickstarters as both a "fire and forget" type of thing as well as a "business investment" simultaneously.

I vet every Kickstarter company I think about pledging too before I throw money at the wall. It's why mantic has gotten my money on several occasions.

It's also why I am skeptical of lost kingdomss upcoming lizardmen Kickstarter.

    My philosophy for Kickstarter is:
    - only give money you can easily spare
    - consider the money to be gone
    - forget about the project after a while
    - be pleasantly surprised one day when something actually happens

As of now I have supported four Kickstarter projects, of which two gave me something that I consider being worth the money, and two didn't reach their goals so I didn't pay anything.
