Too early to really say anything IMO.

way early, but as written really puts an emphasis on the slann and astrolith. slann are already basically required for most competitive non kroaknado list, and astrolith is required in the kroak list. perhaps this will allow for different lists to reach competitive level, but one really must ask how this will affect Dracothians tail.

Maybe with Dracothains tail, it will work the same like a deepstrike, since we don't know how the new summoning works. As for the new summoning I'm excited, but agree too early to tell.

It's a well needed change - I have to wonder how it can be pulled off while maintaining game balance though. As it stands, the previewed application of LoN's new summoning rules looks very strong.

They really do! One thing I've been telling myself is that we are only seeing the tip of the iceberg on these rules, their could be a ton more to a specific rule, or it's just an ice cube! Lol

One thing I'm very curious about is whether it will involve Command Points, and if it does, how that potentially affects the Bloodclaw Starhost. The Starhost currently allows us to use the Command abilities on any heroes in it even if they're not the army's general, and I expect this will continue in 2.0 as Archaon's similar ability was unchanged. That would leave us with free command points that could fuel summoning. That could make it quite a decent basis for an army.

I'm hoping Bloodclaw gets a point reduction in GH2. 200 points is pretty steep - not to mention all of the heros you need to field to fill out the batallion PLUS a Slann or Astrolith to take advantage of new summoning rituals.

    Yeah interesting topic.
Although if you think about it: Bloodclaw means you can do something that would normally cost you 3-4 command points. Command points are worth 50 points.
Might actually still be worth it.

I don’t see bloodclaw ever receiving a points reductions. It’s one of the few 1 drop competitive armies in the game.

In the article from yesterday about summoning it states Slann and Astrolith Bearers for summoning units, but in the Facebook picture up today it's saying Slann and EotG... interesting

    Edit: typo

The summoning article actually said that Slaan and Astrolith Bearers are how we generate the resources we use for summoning, by performing rituals:

As to which models can actually summon, currently in the Battletome that's just Slaan and rolling a 14-17 on an Engine of the Gods. So it seems that isn't changing in 2.0.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Engine of the Gods summon becomes reinforcement-point-free, but can only happen once per battle and only units from a certain list can be summoned (similar to the limitations on Alarielle's free summon). In any case, something should be done so that rolling 14-17 isn't useless unless you're holding back points.

Yeah, I might actually field the EoTG now, but I think I'll see a list of what can be summoned and how much. Unfortunately I don't think I can run two EoTG's, a Starseer and a Slann and roll the lotto to see how many Bastilidons (or Dread Saurians heh) I can slap onto the field, but that would be in a dreamland.

The skaven faction focused said the screaming bell will now simply summon the verminlord for free. Since the bell works basicly the same as the EoTG I would say this'd also happen with the EoTG.

If that's true, how are they going to balance it? EotG warscroll doesn't specify the type or size of the unit that is summoned, and being able to throw down Bastiladons, maxed out units of Saurus or (as has already been mentioned in this thread) Dread Saurians is hilariously overpowered. Especially seeing as the odds of rolling 14-17 aren't that slim when you have a Slann nearby.

Maybe they will just write it like Alarielle's ability and just give us a list to choose from:
    - 10 Skinks
    - 10 Saurus Warriors
    - 5 Saurus Guard
    - 5 Saurus Knights
    - Skink Priest
    - Skink Starpriest

Hmmm....I think aos 2.0 kills at least two birds with one stone. Firstly, they are addressing to the community insofar that they tweak point costs, revamp spells and so on. But, and that's my personal opinion, GW is a company. They want to sell miniatures. They saw a completely barren part of aos, summoning. By adding the new summoning mechanism (every faction has its own new method of generating spell points) every faction can now placeace new units for "free". This means the players need do buy these units additionally. As well as those new remains in play spell effects. I don't know if Seraphon will really profit from it, as they also removed one of our main advantages: dispelling across the board. All in all I'm very sceptical about it, I also know we don't have the full rules, so it might be too early for fatalism...
