I get that, but they did mention that the Faction Focuses' primary job would be to introduce new players to the factions, I just don't think it's fair to criticize the whole article when, in fact, they do a really good job of introducing the factions to possibly interested players. I too would like to have more information on the Matched play side, but I've come to understand that the hobby is so vast that you can't cover everything all the time.

Looking promising for these markers, I just hope they are not too expensive.

If the point is just a short introduction to the various factions then the articles are fine for what they are. Just not for what I'd want or what I'd expect . Must have missed the line indicating that that's all they're for :p

The various spells do look rather cool.

I think I see SCE the same way I see Michael Bay's version of Transformers. It might not be the best, but it introduced me to the franchise and it rakes in the cash, meaning the other, better aspects of the franchise continue. It's not all bad either - the score for all of them is fantastic. It's similar to SCE for me in that way. They brought me in, and given the focus on them it can be assumed they make a lot of money, allowing the other parts to tick along nicely. It's a little annoying that they get all the attention, but just as the Transformers film series has an incredible score, I do still quite like the models and backstory for them. Apart from in the perspectives of the likes of youand a few others, it doesn't quite ruin the public perception of the brand as much as the films in my opinion, so it has that over it. Your meme reminds me of something though:

    :D:p

And so I can't be accused of completely derailing the thread:
I agree, looks awesome. Given what they said about these spells being based on a particular realm, I think this has a "realm of shadowy" feel to it

@Canas I thought that you cast from the Slann but measure the distance from the vassal, so you can be the extra 15" away without having to worry about being unbound, or have I been playing it wrong this whole time? Lol not trying to be snarky it's a for real question bc if I have been I owe some people some apologies!

yeah you cast from the slann then measure from the skink so you get an effective range of 15 +18 = 33".
But with an unbind of 30" that 33" is nowhere near the advantage it used to be. Back when (most) people unbind at 18" being able to cast at 33" meant your cast could basicly not be unbound. At 33" vs 30" all they need to do is take a step closer and they can now unbind. Which makes it a rather massive nerf to the skink vassals as one of their major advantages has been mostly negated.

Well that boxset looks awesome, so does everything else. Possibilities being in the £90-100 range. Going with the Dark Imperium boxset.

I wonder if GHB 18 will be released alongside it or in August.

Probably alongside it - it was announced with it in the article.

Certainly it’ll be interesting to see how much the magic expansion is, if it contains all the plastic endless spell pieces and rules - £50 perhaps? Perhaps even more if GW are feeling especially tight-fisted...

It’s funny that they attempt to claim that it’s the best Warhammer boxset ever - Battle of Skull Pass was so much better. It had over double the number of minis, no SCE, some additional bits of scenery, e.t.c., and I wonder if the getting started book will actually be helpful in teaching how to play like in Battle of Skull Pass. The one in Island of Blood was no help at all, but the one in Escape from Goblin Town was very good, and reminded me of Battle of Skull Pass in the way they did the scenarios. The only things that are good about Soul Wars is that it features a non-Chaos faction fighting the SCE (one of the several ways in which it beats Dark Imperium) and that it has the full hardback rulebook rather than a smaller softcover (although the latter is easier to take around and look up rules in).

I also imagine later on GW will release smaller versions of Soul Wars, a £50 one and a £20 one, like they did with the AoS 1st Edition box and Dark Imperium, so those who don’t fancy spending £90-100 in one go won’t need to worry so much. The £20 one will probably contain the 4 Stormcast and Nighthaunt easy to build boxes in the article with a game board and rules, while the £50 one will contain a condensed version of the contents of Soul Wars I expect.

@Crowsfoot I imagine you’ll be after those small box sets of banshees and hunters as well as the main box - the full works’ worth of reinforcements for your Death army! ;)

Funny thing, all the minies in the box are snap fit and won't need any glue. I wonder if this will be a thing that will happen too other, newer, figures as well.

I believe this is because of this box being friendly to the newcomers, as all starters are "glue free"
