Hey all! So about 9 months ago I bit the bullet and finally got into Warhammer. In that time I've amassed 6 different armies: Skaven, Daughters of Khaine, Nighthaunt, Stormcast, Beastclaw Raiders and my first and of course favorite, Seraphon. A few months ago I managed to win 2 Stegadons from eBay at a good price, however neither of them had a crew. So I bought a couple more boxes of Skinks to do some kit bashing with the plan of using the rest to build up a Skink army list. That's when I started really looking at the Kroxigor. The GW models are terrible. They really didn't age well and, in my personal opinion, don't really match the other Seraphon models. So I decided to find a proxy. After scouring the internet I stumbled on these forums and Woogity's Kroxigor...and was immediately disappointed seeing as he didn't print them anymore.

So here's the kicker. I own a small 3D printing business that I manage outside of Game Design, but I haven't done any high poly modelling since I was in school eight years ago. (And even then it was just to model a quick android for my animation class). But I figured I'd give it a shot and see what I could make. For a 2D sprite artist and voxel modeler I don't think they turned out too bad. Now that my Kroxigor are finished I figured I'd like to show them off and get some feedback.

I included some images after they were primed and after they were painted with the rest of my Seraphon models (I still have another 1200 points to paint). I also thought I'd show what they looked like on the supports they were printed on.

I think you've got a great start there! They certainly look TONS better than the GW ones.

Interesting that you went with a smooth head shape like that. They might look a bit more akin to Saurus if they had a ridge down the middle (or even two for that matter). Also, the musculature of the figures is somewhat flat. It doesn't look bad, but those arms are rather tiny for such big, great weapon-wielding beasts. Lastly, the poses are somewhat static. I'd be nice to see a touch more dynamism (raised weapon, charging pose, leaping lizard, etc...).

You're well on your way to having a quality product there though! Are you planning on selling these?

    Seconded,

Well done, they do look good - but as chicken lips says they just need that something extra - I find with the GW older models (like the kroxigors) that their poses are the worst bit, followed by their strange proportions and details.

You are certain on the right path, they are looking good, they just need a little extra kick to get them from good to awesome.

If you’d be interested I could take a go at ‘enhancing them’ ie: I get hold of a set of three (I’m happy to pay) and do my thing with them - see how you like it?

(I’m currently making my own kroxigors from scratch - but I’m a mad mad and have a ton of jobs on at once)

Thanks for the feedback so far! I think I see what you mean about needing that "extra touch". I was thinking of fleshing them out with some extra bits that I have from GW kits, I'm just not sure where I would start with it. I haven't done much yet in the way of converting and kit bashing. As far as the somewhat static poses, that's a result of my rigging skills (or lack-thereof). If I move them too much the skin starts stretching and it looks odd. I could easily make another set of three though with more dynamic poses, just a matter of playing with the shape and trying to get the skin weights right.

And if people are interested I can easily sell them. I just need to calculate the time/material cost to print them.

The pose doesn't bother me as much as the heads. I suppose they just look a little too "Shark-like" to me. I think it's the nose-holes. That's why I was suggesting a more bony head. Maybe some scales on the head-plate as well? These are all just suggestions if you were considering trying to do something different to them.

Looking good! I definitely see the great white vibe especially from the one on the right.
    Nice and beefy!
Id agree with some scales on the headplate too.

huh, I never actually related it to a shark but now I can't unsee it. The resin is sculpt-able enough that I should be able to carve out some scales if I can find a fine enough knife, and I might make some adjustments to the 3D model.

I also calculated the costs to print each set, so if anyone would like to buy some I can sell them for $36 for a set of 3, not including shipping, or sales tax for orders in Washington State.

Agree with what the other guys said, great start!
They are a bit flat in some places, but they look really cool when painted.

I've been playing around with the model a little bit and I added more detail to his shoulders and headcrest. I haven't printed it yet because I wanted some more input, so these are screenshots of the 3D Model. Krox_Front.png Krox_Back.png

I love the look and feel of them, but you should make their arms and hands a tad bigger. They are the muscle of the Seraphon after all! :)

Agree about the tiny hands. First I didn't notice but now that you said it... they do look kinda small.

Ah, big improvement! Nice work, that's definitely took the shark look away.

As the others have said, a model that big definitely needs bulkier arms. It especially shows with the hands and wrists.

So recently Microsoft forced my computer to update to their latest terrible update and surprise surprise, it broke my computer. I ended up having to reformat my harddrive in a last ditch effort to get my machine working again, and in the process I lost most of my recent files, including my Kroxigor proxy (and my modeling software which took a few weeks to get the product keys and reinstall them). All I really have left of it are early backups that are pretty much just the basic shape. BUT instead of just giving up on my proxies I decided to just start again from scratch and see where it leads. I figure this time I'll use Rich Carey's concept art for the Total War Warhammer 2 Kroxigor as inspiration. I'll only be able to work on it in my free time, but when I have a model I'll show it off to get some feedback.

    I can feel your pain.

Still looking forward to see your new concepts and prints. I think they were awsome and I am sure the new ones will be even more so.

Here in my post maybe you can find some items to print in 3D. And maybe you can also contribute something. ;)
