It never used to be - have a look at all the editions prior to 6th. All the boxed games for those editions featured Xenos races not Chaos, and 6th was acceptable because it was the first time we had seen Chaos Marines in a boxed game. Indeed Chaos Space Marines were one of the less favoured factions right up to 7th, as they never got a 5th Edition Codex and the 6th Edition one was produced then largely forgotten about - there was nothing truly special about it that made Chaos Marines particularly powerful or weak, at least not compared to the hideously OP Craftworld Eldar one released a few months after it. There was the Horus Heresy but that was 30K not 40K, and at that point there was only a selection of Forge World miniatures and books - effectively it was seen as a specialist game. It was only in 7th that they started to pack it in a bit more by simply re-releasing Dark Vengeance rather than bringing in a new boxed game with a new enemy faction, and 8th has heightened it to ridiculous levels. GW simply cannot seem to make something without putting some sort of Imperium vs Chaos rubbish into it - they had a real chance to launch a brand new Xenos faction with Blackstone Fortress, yet they blow it by shoving in a load of Chaos Guardsmen and Beastmen (miniatures that players have been able to easily convert for years) with very little explanation of how they got there except for the new mantra of ‘we have to have some Imperium vs Chaos rubbish’. For almost a year now the Vigilus Campaign has been giving us some decent battleboxes with Xenos races aplenty, a breathing hole to allow us to escape from the abomination known as Dark Imperium, yet now GW decide to have the Black Legion prance in and start a countdown to what will 110% be another dreadful Imperium vs Chaos boxed game. You get the gist? In short, they’re shoving it into our faces more and more and it’s getting intolerable.

I think I’ve said my piece.

I never expected to see it either, but I never wanted to see the worst First Founding Chapter get their own series. The Cassian Andor series is still top of my list, thanks.

Just been looking around on the GW website and have seen that quite a lot of the old stuff is going for Gobins. The Wolf Chariot, the Squig Hoppers, one lot of Squig Herders, all the Stone Trolls and the regular Troll with hammer have all gone:

    Snip.PNG Snip 2.PNG
The other ordinary Troll (the one with the bone), the other set of Herders and the two sets of extra Squigs are still around, but it's likely that they will go too nearer to the end of December:

    Snip 4.PNG
This gives us a nice little insight into what GW plan to release for Moonclan - new Squig Hoppers and Herders were always on the cards, as were new Trolls once we saw Mollog appear for Nightvault, but the Wolf Chariot being removed is a surprise - it looks like GW must be planning to release some sort of new plastic chariot for Moonclan then (most likely drawn by Squigs), as when the Grand Alliance books first appeared GW mostly removed units from armies they were still to support that were effectively duplicates with those from other armies, specifically with the High Elves, where their older Spearmen were phased out because they were too similar to the much newer Dark Elf Dreadspears, and their Archers being phased out in favour of the Wood Elf Glade Guard being kept. I'm a little sad to see the regular Troll models go because I was hoping to get the one with the bone to go with the other two I have (the plastic one from Battle for Skull Pass and the one with the hammer which I bought not long afterwards), but I can always get Mollog when he comes out and paint him in a similar scheme to go with the rest of the unit.

It's also interesting to see Mangler Squigs still available, at least in Britain, as someone on the Grand Alliance said they were out of stock as well. Maybe they will be replaced with a plastic version by January too as although they are a relatively new model, they are Finecast which GW are now keen to phase out in favour of plastic. Certainly if they do it'll mean that they'll be available to buy in store again as well as online, which is fine by me as I prefer to go out to the shop to get stuff.

Yes! The preview’s definitely coming tomorrow!

It’s interesting though that it’s servo-skulls and Servitors that are being killed by the Goblins in the trailer and not something more AoS-related...

I’ve just found this on TGA which someone else found somewhere else - the special edition tome cover:

Unusual to see an armoured Goblin as the front cover character rather than a regular one, but great to see GW combine the traditional Night Goblins with the new ones with mushrooms growing all over them, as if the latter are a particular cult of Night Goblins (within the cult that is Night Goblins) that have allowed mushrooms to grow all over them. Certainly that armoured Night Goblin could be one of an elite (for Night Goblins) unit with halfway decent armour and a more aggressive profile.

I'm hoping that the Gloomspite Gitz will have an option on taking Trolls/Troggoths as battleline, then I do have my Squigs also.

I’m not sure if that will be the case, but Squig Hoppers or Herds as battleline is much more likely,

Would be a shame but that is just me :p
Nothing wrong with hordes of Squigs so I can go with that also. Should really get around to painting them when I can

So true - now we know what a Night Goblin actually sounds like!

Just been having a look over on TGA and from what they're saying, it may be the case that Forest and Night Goblins are going to be in the same army, as spiders are seen accompanying the Night Goblins, Squigs and Trolls in the video:
    Snip 5.PNG
Don't know if they will be getting additional stuff like the Night Goblins, but at least that sorts the problem of them having their own separate army with only 3 different kits out.

Also, Mangler Squigs are now gone too in the GW Webstore - looks like the Finecast version of them is getting replaced too, which is good I have to say because it will be so much easier to get a Mangler model for my 8th Edition Greenskins.

Well, some of the new minis are coming in, and they're pretty spectacular. Some new fanatics, which is a real surprise:
With the option of being able to make them wield massive spores rather than iron wrecking balls:

The endless spells - 2 for Moonclan and 2 for Spiderfang:
The Night Goblin king in the video, effectively Skarsnik's AoS heir:
The seemingly mandatory army scenery piece (I have a much smaller version from Battle for Skull Pass - don't know if it would count):
    New Squig Hoppers:
New Herders and Squigs (I'm assuming the herders are customisable):
    And according to GW...

Love the new models but the Squig Hoppers just scream 'fragile' Some are okay but the ones that are on the thinner parts like the spore clouds make me think that.
Looks like I have to wait to see the new trolls, saw the blurry one in the back. Looks like a Rockgut type, there is also the one in the Christmas picture but what is the miniature version like
