So I am looking to start a Seraphon army. Everyone loves dinosaurs right. My FLGS is pretty competitive, a lot of tournement lists for even casual games. Can anyone set me in the right direction of what I should acquire. I know summoning is strong but I'm not sure what I need. Thanks in advance. And sorry if this has been asked a million times already.
Hi, welcome to our forum! The seraphon battleforce Starclaw Strike host is the best starting point, giving you skinks, skink Starpriest, troglodon/carnosaur, 6 flying units (i suggest 6 ripperdactyls) and a bastiladon. Then, you need to choose the point level you want to play. At 1k Seraphon have brutal lists based on the Shadowstrike Starhost, for which the battleforce provides an extremely good starting point. I would invest in Slann, Razordon, Astrolith bearer (or convert it from some saurus), more skinks and at least a couple of Engine of the Gods. Shadowstrike is still very effective in high point games, where you usually need some summoning support however. Other competitive battalions we have access to are Thunder quake starhost, based on big dinos, Fangs of Sotek, based on Saurus Warriors hordes, and Dracothion's tail, based on Saurus Knights. If you prefer the last two battalions you should invest in a couple of Start Coollecting Seraphon boxes and follow the precious guide posted here on Lustria Online.
Hi I am new to the forum too and I would either start with seraphon too. What's the better way to start. 2 boxes of the start collecting the or the battleforce box. And what I need than too. A slann priest?
It is better the battleforce but the start collecting if you want saurus army is wonderful. Slann is essential because he is the principal summoning tool and the engine of gods is very important too
I think the battleforce is a better starting point as it allows very competitive building right off and saves almost 50% money. Other units you might want regardless of what you start with are Slann Engine of the Gods Razordons Saurus Astrolith Bearer MORE SKINKS.
So if I want a saurus army I should go with the start collecting Box 2 of them an a engine of the gods. Is that a good choice ?
It depends on how competitive you want to be. Bear in mind that Saurus heavy list are only reliable at around 2k in matched play, with the Fangs of Sotek or Dracothion's Tail battalions, and that you would still skinks and other units to summon. Fangs of Sotek needs at least 60 Saurus Warriorsw to be competitve.
Oh okay. So it is the better way to start with the battleforce box. I understand. So I will go with it the battletome and what ? I ve the money for this and 30 bucks. So I choose a skink star priest or another skink box
Currently I don't think the battletome is worth it, it is too outdated. You already have a Skink Starpriest in the battleforce.
I planned on picking up the battleforce box aswell. So I will also need a slann, Astrolith Bearer, engine of the gods 1 or more, more skinks (what's a good number?), and is it better to go with cogs or the vortex or both? Did I miss anything?
2 boxes gets you 2 star priests, 2 bastis, 2 trog/carnos, 12 rippers and 48 skinks. Which isnt actually a bad start, the only thing you have too many of are the priests and rippers Contents breakdown: Priests: kinda only need 1 but a second doesn't hurt, either use the 2nd as a regular priest or just have him as a spare Basti: both versions are good for different situations, so you've got both. Trog/ Carno: either build multiple carnos (theyre so good you prob want more than 1) or build 1 trog + 1 carno for the variety Rippers: only really need 6 max for one unit but this either gives 2 units of 6 or makes the 2nd 6 up as terros Skinks: though 48 is too many for 1 unit (prob want 30-35 a unit) gives you either a head start on a second unit or some conversion fodder.
