    Hey all,

A few months ago I posted my WIP Mazdamundi and Zlaaq build - I've done some work since and thought this would be a nice place to document progress on the project until it is completed. (A bit of background) I've been a painter off an on now for most of the past fourteen years and breifly worked as a comission painter from 2011-14. Right now I mostly paint for fun and have always really appreciated GW's Lizardmen range, my first miniature back in 2004 was the old chunky stegadon.

I started this mini with a pretty exhaustive leg extension for Zlaaq, while I really love the current stegadon model, I hate its pose. Because this is supposed to be one big steg I also extended the headcrest out by layering part of plastic alternative on top of the smaller crest.

C&C is always welcome, I'm hoping to do a lot of expirmenting with this mini including free-hand scales at some point.

Over the past few days I've mostly been working on the display base. The ceramic part is an old Cacti stand.

Unfortunately the pictures don't work (at least for me). Did you link them or upload them directly to the forums?

Hopefully, that was the fix, I think they were caught in the spam filter!

I appreciate it! A few hours of free-hand and I've managed to settle on a scale pattern I really like.

Another update, I did some more work on the display base adding some roots I found around and slightly painted old aquarium plant. The second major thing was Zlaaq's ornamental crest using the old army book illustration for inspiration. I wanted to avoid it looking incredibly think so I opted to use shaved down bits mostly from the stegadon kit with sculpted snake takes for the parts that go around the eyes.

    Awesome!

Can you give us a close-up of the Stega? It looks like you just dotted the skin, making it look so much more detailed!?
I'd love to see that up close.

I tried a combination of blotches/dots and line work - obviously, this still needs a lot of cleaning up but I hope it helps!

As far as other updates go on this project I've done some more work on the throne and Mazdamundi himself.

Thank you for all for the compliments. Today will be the last post for a few weeks -I'm headed into my final exams but anticipate being back online in mid-December. I managed to get the Skink crew in and did some additional working cleaning up the horns and base. Apologies in advance, this post will be pic heavy

Love the head decoration for the stegadon! Kudos on all that freehand scale work, that is not a small job to make that look as good as it does!

Many thanks for the comments - I've had a little more time to work on another project recently. This is my first major attempt at using an airbrush for /shading and it was a major eye-opener. I don't think I fully realized how much time sink free-hand painting is on a mini like this (at least for simple layers) Using Zlaaq as a guide, I've been trying to get more creative with scale freehand work. I'm hoping to have another update for you all in April - apologies again for the sporadic timeline.
