The saurus in general need a big update. Considering the idea that they were quite literally BRED FOR WAR to be used as soldiers, just to be decimated by just about every other infantry choice out there, even the ones with comparable point costs, is just ridiculous.
Skinks need a boost even more, ad they actually just tickle enemy. At least something that trigger with a 6... for boltsplitters a MW for poisoned darts on a 6 to hit. For javelins double dam on 6 to wound. That would be the bare minimum , plus a discount for hordes.
Actually I think that Skinks dont really need a buff. Maybe a Skink hero that buffs them so they do a tiny bit more damage, but otherwise they perform pretty well in their role (cannon fodder, objective claiming). Saurus on the other hand... they need a buff.
I agree. A skink spell lore would be cool, skink hero or priest on a flier would also be cool, skinks themselves are fine. Skinks are the guys behind the army making sure their civilization continues to work. The Saururs are THE fighting force for the Seraphon. That should be clearly demonstrated by their warscrolls. If our army is looking for dmg it should come from our Saururs and larger dinos. That being said chameleon skinks and the skinks fliers should be the skinks dmg option not rank and file skinks. They were bred to be artist and basically govt officials.
If we look at the combat role of skinks in the old world, they were: - one of the greatest skirmisher units in all the game, able to take down even monsters tnx to poisoned shooting - nice combat unit when combined with kroxigors . So no, they were definitely a solid part of lustrian fighting forces. This is totally gone . They are a cheap unit, they are good obj grabbers and excellent screen unit. Which is nice, and at the beginning they were amongst the best unit in that role... but the game evolves and actually we can see units of other armies with the same cost, that brings much more abilities to the table. For their cost, skinks are actually falling back. That said, i agree that sauri are in desperate need of a buff , but skinks are not fine the way they are. Not with the actual power creep.
They might (mostly) be good at their role but it'd be nice if they were at least capable of doing something besides dying in droves while standing on an objective. It'd be nice if a unit of 10 skinks could at least scratch the paint on an opponent's armor before getting annihilated.
With Khorne ready to preorder, we'll probably have the next AoS army announced this week at Gama Trade show. Finger crossed !
Starting today! It’ll most likely be 40K 8th Edition today as GW still think it’s their best game (even though I would firmly argue that it’s stagnating like Fantasy was in its 8th Edition) but hopefully there will be a key army reveal for AoS sometime this week. Place your bets please!
Hopefully some Seraphon or something that needs the update and attention. Then I can imagine them showing off Forbidden Power, can't think of anything 40K at the moment because Shadowspear. Maybe a new faction or updating books already but not sure.
Rumor on 4chan, take it with A LOT of salt: "Rumors from Dakkkadakka New ogor faction on the way Enormous models, each is about twice the height of a current ogor model and even fatter Armies will consist of only a handfull of them, but they will each hit like small monsters Food/fire theme, Butchers will be the main heroes of the faction Centerpiece model is a butcher riding a massive pig dragging a cauldron of gore Will be called Gutbusters, but most current ogor models will be squatted"
Something about that doesn't sit right with me, maybe the whole squatting a lot of the current range. Ogors being twice the height and all, I can see it being a small yet expensive army. Pig? Well I can see a giant one but I thought of something similar to the Thundertusks/Stonehorns. Maybe it looks like a pig. The Ogors do need a book though, including an update to the Raiders.
Interesting idea - it’d be nice to see an Ogre faction with a tome, but I think GW should update Ironjawz, Bonesplitterz and Beastclaw Raiders first before reintroducing Gutbusters. I can see the giant pig being a very primitive ancestor of the Gore Gruntas and wouldn’t be surprised if they did make the Ogres even bigger, as they did that with Ironjawz being bigger Orcs before, but I’d be surprised if they decided to squat the regular Ogre models only by the time that release - Ogre Kingdoms players of old would be up in arms, and surely if they didn’t like the models before they would have squatted them ages ago when Grand Alliance Destruction appeared or something. My prediction is either a Fyreslayers update or Dispossessed receiving a tome, getting their artillery back from the damned Freeguild and having some new models, because I’m sure that all the Dwarf statuary that appears on the Gloomspite Gitz models’ bases is hinting that a new lore expansion featuring an underground war between the Dwarfs and Goblins like in Fantasy will be coming soon.
Whilst we wait for more information, let's play a fun(?) little game: what update/change to the Seraphon faction would be our absolute nightmare short of the entire faction being squatted? I'll start: Saurus stats left unchanged, models updated to be wearing Stormcast Eternal armour.
I would say a combination of Saurus left unchanged as you say, Skinks being buffed hugely to encourage yet more people to use them and the army needing a Slann even more to be even viable. I really honestly don’t want to use Skinks as anything except cannon-fodder and would much prefer to have my general be a Saurus on Carnosaur than a Slann (partly because I don’t have a Slann and partly because the Slann model just looks so boring with so little conversion potential to make it your own).
Or they leave summoning as it is, but increase the cost of Slann up to 400 pts. And the range of LoSaT goes to 1-3 nothing / 4-5 no move / 6 move
Think it could be the reason why I'm slowly changing to having more Saurus, Skinks are either used as meatshields or running away all the time, well Skinks are crafty but I always forget their retreating rule. Surprisingly enough, whenever my Skinks are in combat they do quite well compare to the shooting. It's weird, lead to believe I have that style of standing my ground, fighting and charging. I used to be a lot more staying back but now I just want to get in as soon as I can before the enemy can. Saying all that, it makes me wish they can do something with the melee Skinks, making you decide what is more worth taking. I know the Skinks are more sitting up high and attacking from afar but would be nice to see.
