O, awesome. This is what I would've wanted allies to be from the beginning. It limits abuse, as only specific units can ever show up as mercenaries. It's a small mini-battalion with some small bonusses & since the battalion makes at least some sense in terms of composition and has a hero leading it and such there's at least some synergy in it as well, solving the issue that allies currently have where 90% of all models just can't ever be taken as allies cuz they're useless without their synergies but you can't afford to bring those synergies cuz that'd go waaaaaaaaaaaaaay over the pointlimit. I do hope there's more than in this list though
My aleguzzler kits didnt come holding a HUGE rock however, i LOVE the idea of using them with my lizards!
i imagine their humongous legs when sprint do the same thundering noise - laser dinosaurs! The Regiments didn't grab my curiosity that much... seems like a waste for rare cps... on the contrary for fun games i dig it
- Sons of the Lichemaster: Skeletons + necromancer + corpse cart Potential uses: decent tarpit and moderate damage with the necromancer ressurecting falling skeletons and casting vanhel's danse to make em attack twice. Quite nice for armies that lack something that combines survivability with halfway decent damage. Also, not terribly expensive. Also, like the other undeath mercenaries, briljant in a nighthaunt army cuz of the necromancer's deathly invocation. - Grugg Brothers: 4 gargants Potential uses: well it's 4 big monsters, they'l smash stuff. Interesting if you don't have monsters of your own so fairly pointless for us I guess. Also probably too expensive in anything other than open play. - Order of the Blood-drenched Rose: Vampire on steed + blood Knights Potential uses: shock cavalry with a selfheal and a free wizard. Very interesting when you're fielding a nighthaunt army as the vampire's deathly invocation will be usefull and nighthaunt themselfs don't have deathly invocation. With a non-undeath army it's basicly just heavy shock cavalry with a selfheal when it kills stuff. Decent statline, and interesting if you don't have anything like it yourself. - Nimyard’s Rough-Riders: Pistoliers, outriders and freeguild general Potential uses: skirmisher cavalry.Has a decent amount of rend and volume of attacks. Fairly underwhelming otherwise. Nice if you have a particularly slow army or desperatly need that rend I guess. - The Blacksmoke Battery: cannon, organ gun, cogsmith and gyrocopter Potential uses: its a bunch of artillery, use it to shoot stuff. Fairly briljant if you don't have any significant artillery of your own, so probably quite decent for us. - Skroug’s Menagerie: A chaos gargant, and a menagerie of stuff? Potential uses: dunno, it's unclear what friends the gargant is bringing. - Rampagers: Marauders + darkoath chieftain or warqueen Potential uses: meh, it's a bunch of fodder, can do some damage I guess. But I think most factions have their own variation of that. Maybe for factions that have few models (e.g. SCE, also for the sweet irony of fielding chaos in an SCE army) to get some bodies on the table? - The gutstuffers:Maneaters + firebelly Potential uses: take em with striders and you now got some very fast hardhitting units that re-roll charges and can run and charge in the same turn. Quite nice if your army is slow or if you don't have many Multi-wound models. This is of course all assuming they are actually affordable I haven't checked the point values on em. But with the exception of the Grugg brothers I think all of em should be useable without breaking any limits. They also all seem to have fairly clear uses without being overpowered. With an exception or two like the rampagers and rough riders which don't really seem to serve any purpose in most armies.
im looking at the The Blacksmoke Battery i like dwarven artillery and its nice that we finally have acses to it although 460-580 is prity steep for a all three and cogsmith ill have to play with it to see how it runs.also it looks like its just the 8 and the two from forbidden powers
well.... and what happened with the rumor Engine? When are we going to know if its for Seraphon or not? Are we going to have a new BT soon? T-T
I wonder how Seraphon having chaos mercenaries would work thematically. Maybe they are using them and they are planning to betray each other later?
I would assume that's the fluff they're going with in most cases. Though especially the chaos mercenaries are a bit weird. Chaos doesn't really seem to ever build anything nor care about wordly possesions overly much. It'd make more sense if being a follower of chaos didn't make you batshit insane and evil by default but merely made you prone to sacrificing the occasional innocent to a daemon for some mystical boon.
Something I’ve noticed about chaos is that it doesn’t always have to be synonymous with evil. While they are “bad guys”, they also represent good things as well: Khorne can represent honor, leadership, and mercy towards those who cannot defend themselves. Tzeentch can represent hope, enlightenment, and change for the better(these were things I read on 1d4chan, and I like the concept). Maybe they can be a tribe that worships those aspects of the chaos gods and have good intentions, and the chaos gods are takeing advantage of this. One of my favorite things about Warhammer is that (most of) the characters are not completely black and white, which gives you a lot of creative opportunities.
we must all make sacrifices for the great plan. those that survive fighting each other can always be killed later.
So the plan is as follows: as soon as we are done we take an endless tide of snakes... and fill in the rest
In theory yes, but there's very very very few examples where the good sides of the chaos gods actually shine through in their followers. Hell there's barely any followers who aren't completly insane, despite this (technicly) being completly possible. E.g. it should be possible to have a society that follows say Khorne who'd just be very warlike, focused on honour, but prone to fits of (berserker) rage and with a focus on might makes right in their brutal society. But who don't spend most of their days collecting skulls to make furniture.. Instead you're Lucky if you can find a khornate warband that doesn't just attack basicly anyone they meet on sight… Just look at what's supposed to have been going on before Sigmar released his SCE, Khornate warbands controlled vast swathes of land, but there's not a single civilization in sight, they just went around killing random stuff.
1 organ gun currently cost 120pts, gyrocopter cost 80pts. So for 380 you can take 2 organ guns and 1 copter, organ guns hit on 2s(if copter is near target otherwise 3s), wound on 3s, rend 1, dmg 1. Have both organ guns load 3 barrels(can do 1-4, but I think 3 is reliable and deadly) so each rolls a d6, on a 3+ they get 3d6 shots but if they fail that roll they jam. Plus the copters guns, could take the brimestones for extra poke from a safe range, or go all in and take steam for maximum hurt. All in all that's a lot of stunty firepower, might add this to both my Seraphon and deepkin army xD. I think we might see point and even some rule adjustments for all the mercenary units. Lots of the models almost never see table these days. Edit: Also they've shown all of them 8 in that post plus the 2 from forbidden powers is 10 mercs.
possibly, but those don't worship Khorne, which is the point. If they would worship him they'd just be world eaters and those are so violent they don't even manage to stay together as a chapter and just dissolved into individual warbands. Greenskins have more of a structured society than freaking world eaters...
