My main gripe about SCE is that they all kinda look the same. They are really the Space Marines of AoS.
The problem is I paint lots of them all at once. My theory is that as soon as you get the base colours down and away from grey plastic, the easier it is to get the motivation to finish them. Having piles of grey models lying around is a real vibe killer. All my Storm cast are painted gold, washed and dry brushed. The gold looks good. But I really wish I had painted them the turquoise colour or whitish. The thought of stripping the paint of 30 + models is not an appealing one to me, so I wouldn't bother doing that. Also Don't want to paint over them, as some of them have already been painted over a couple of times as I made the mistake of using Agrax earth shade to wash the gold the first time.
just pair it with some collor other than blue i thing a burgundy or green would make them stand out quite well
a deep maroon edging and cloth color would definitely dull the gold "in your face" effect and make them stand apart from most of the SCE ive seen on tables near me.
The one SCE model my wife and I painted are the standard gold+blue scheme with some red cloth sprinkled in, and I think it can look good if you put a bit of shade on it, so the gold doesn't look flat. The sculpts are not bad and you can paint a lot of details if you want. They are not my style but I can definitely see the appeal of a heavily armored dude. (That's what I like about classic dwarves).
Tyranids were my first tabletop army, I started a few months prior to the release of 8E. Only got a small army so far, about 2.5k points. Also got four Killteams (Nids, Genestealer Cult, Death Guard, Thousand Sons). My next project was a Genestealer Cult army, but the Seraphon army and the release of Warcry put a wrench in that plan (for now, lol).
I actually play 40k quite a bit more than I play AoS (just more active in my area). I play space marines of all kinds (blood angels, dark angels, and ultras) along with the typical imperium cheese of custodes, knights, IG... but my first love will always be my lizardmen I tend to enjoy AoS a bit more in general, but the brutality of 40k is fun. I was a little concerned when they ditched fantasy for AoS that it would be too similar to 40k but I still enjoy playing both. Not quite sure which I prefer painting. My guilliman
Played 40k since 3rd edition, converted my Space Marines to Dark Angels in 4th and have played them since. Also have Grey Knight, Deathwatch and Imperial Knight lists and I'd like to start Imp Guard in the future, but I still have boxes to build and models to paint.
I started with 40k and used to have an army of Astra...<old commissar pulls out his bolt piatol> You're in the Guard, son ! But my heart is with my Sisters of Battle, all 7 kg of them Very hyped for the plastic models, finally! I also have some new death guard, where I've been shown how good some rusty weathering looks, and now I can painstakingly add these millions of thin layers onto the whole force :| I also have some imperial knights, one of them on its way to be finished as a giant penitent engine for the Sisters! It's been a bit dormant for the past year though, as I moved, and spent some time with other hobbies (mtg; music, these sorts of time-sinks )
If we're talking about IK, my AdMech is usually supported by a superheavy detachment: 2 armiger warglaives and a knight (Errant / paladin). Or 2 warglaives and a Cerastus Acheron.
