The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist! :D

I suspect the key failing for Tomb Kings and Bretonnia was that they weren't... hmm... I guess "copyright-able" enough might be the best way to put it? They were too generic is the only thing that comes to mind. Which is a pity because both armies had an awesome aesthetic some of the current lines lack... o_O

I agree that may have played a small part, but the same can be said about Lizardmen and they are still around. If Tomb Kings were selling at the rate of say... Space Marines, they would never have been discontinued. Copyright or not.

Wish they had been, they are far more deserving of the title than actual Space Marines ;)

    Has to be Tomb Kings.

Not for their in-game power, but their lore, models and aesthetic.

Funny how Tomb Kings, a relatively minor and now discarded faction, has completely destroyed the competition!!

Interesting to note the ENORMOUS gap between TK and VC, despite being 2 undead factions. Style is all!

Simple. One is icky and the other is classy.

Dark, bloody and zombiefied versus elegant, sophisticated and determined.

Did I mention I play Tomb Kings? ;)

Chaos Dwarves - single vote. MINE!
Reasoning - it was my first WHFB army. Not by choice at the time. Warhammer Quest came out (still the best box set GW have ever done. So much inside) and so I bought a couple of blisters of Dark Elves to add to the monsters in the box. My mate turned up at my work and said give me the Dark elves, I want to make a WHFB army. And then gave me two blisters of Chaos Dwarves. And it was love at first site..........HASHUT be praised.

And greenskins... always love an orc or goblin. So much comedy in many of the sculpts

The thing I find most BS about Tomb Kings vs Vampire Counts is that Vampire Counts are far less copyrightable than Tomb Kings, yet GW chose to get rid of the latter purely due to Ferengi money obsession. Pretty much ever fantasy wargames company under the Sun has some sort of Vampire Counts-style Undead range, while when Warhammer Fantasy was still alive, Tomb Kings were pretty much a unique set of miniatures in the fantasy sector - even today no other wargames company has made such a comprehensive range of Egyptian Undead (Mantic have had the opportunity to do so with Empire of Dust, but they seem obsessed with releasing their own answer to long-standing GW armies that are still in production, rather than capitalising on the niche left open by Tomb Kings’ execution). That’s why it’s so hard to source alternative models for them, compared to Bretonnia for whom you can turn to loads of 20mm historical manufacturers.

Gods I’m so annoyed about GW’s stupidity regarding this issue that I would happily dedicate a whole post to a no-holds-barred rant if it wasn’t for forum rules (which are a great thing to have, I’m not saying otherwise).

I’ll have to make do with writing an entry in my Dammaz Kron for it.
