So I thought this one was interesting. There is a really old church in Mexico, St. Michael, which was built after the arrival of the Spanish. They commissioned (or possibly pressed into service) local painters to create the murals of the church, which were all painted in the local style: Biblical drawinings but with super-heavy Mexican influence. Neat stuff.
Always interesting when things like that happen. I remember being very intrigued when I first saw artworks of Alexander the Great created in Persia, because they depicted him in typical Persian fashion, while there are Greek artworks of similar age that depict him in their style.
Mayan vases Spoiler Pretty crazy blood sacrifice ritual going on in this one, plus baby jaguar that I have definitely posted before. Never saw the fountain of blood magic though. Spoiler
Not sure where this one is from... I think Bonampak. Pretty awesome stela. This one I do have labelled as being from Bonampak. It does look a lot like some Yaxchilan lintels, lots of similarities.
Mayan Theater, Los Angeles. Never been there, need to check it out sometime. Definitely see a lot of real-world inspiration here from sites like Uxmal! Spoiler
