Meh, we don't work very well as primary protagonists. We're too alien to make compelling protagonists in a heroic story. Too cold-blooded to have emotions, which makes it difficult to write a protagonist you can empathise with. And if you do give them these emotions you no longer have true seraphon/lizardmen. We work wonderfully as mysterious secondary characters that go around doing their own indecipherable thing though, be it as allies, opponents or a neutral force. It's not surprising we don't have a whole lot of black library books.

 

you've never read the pesetronic man have you? and even if you ignore the many books that are based on alien creachers that humans shouldn't be able to empathize with (quite a few in black library). then you also have to ignore this entire forum of people who love and cherish the lizard men in spite of that and a massive story board of many good stories that fans have made over the years (story 6 of this contest is a great one http://www.lustria-online.com/threads/lustria-online-short-story-contest-jan-feb-2015-poll.15733/). this is just a lazy excuse not to try

 

Peeps! A friend of mine managed to escape the clutches of GW HQ it seems they were invaded by skaven and are delaying the book to rile up seraphon players so they can single us out and exterminate us!

 

Wow, I loved the story, I really hope we receive a book being the protagonists. Maybe in another 5 years XDD -.- TT_TT

 

yup you could base it on a skink if you really need a personality. or make a naturalist book like have a explorer studying the seraphon finding out how they live how they train their beasts how the hunt, or a historical book like the silmarilian. i can think up a dozen ideas for books expanding our lore i just wan't to know more about the faction i love so much

 

Cherishing lizardmen, is something different from empathasing with a protagonist lizardman in a story.

And of course you can write good stories about lizardmen. However it is very difficult to write stories where they're the protagonist you're supposed to empathise with as the lizardmen themselfs simply don't care about 99% of what's happening to them. A (normal) lizardman doesn't feel envy, doesn't feel fear, doesn't feel pride etc. All that matters is the great plan, and the lizardman will do whatever the great plan wants of him without thinking or caring about it. This makes it very difficult to write a novel where they're the protagonist. Of course writing say a "history"-book, or say short stories, might be easier to pull off as the motivations and emotions of your protagonist aren't necesarly as important there.

If you look at the various novels where alien creatures are the main protagonist they generally do have some emotions or at least motivations & think in ways we can identify with.

You'l be hard pressed to find a novel where a properly alien creature, with utterly incomprehensible motivations & emotions, is the main protagonist. Though you'l probably find a lot where the alien is supposed to be incomprehensible, but in reality isn't since writing something you yourself are not is rather difficult so a lot of writers screw up somewhere along the way and add in too much human and anthromorphy the creatures.

edit: as for the short story you linked, within the first paragraph he's already anthromorphied with emotions (pride & love). Which is what I mean. Avoiding that is increadibly difficult.

 

You really think that lizards are just emotionless robots? Well, I'm sorry, but that just doesn't mesh with Canon. We know they feel rage worry Which is just as lesser form of fear Pride. I know that saurus are simple but they aren't unfeeling. Just cold-blooded.

 

Strictly speaking, from a scientific term lizards DO have a fairly wide range of emotions. The whole idea that they are unfeeling robots is an outdated and discredited scientific theory. In truth lizards do display emotion if you take the time to observe them.

 

every reptile owner right now is furiously typing up rebuttals, MY horned dragon has feelings MY tengu has attitude even lol. you know th eonly lizards I have found to not have feelings and moods? anoles. those fuckers are just zip zip zoom and food.

 

With the supposed new coalesced, the notion of lizardmen/seraphon being rigid, emotionless and nearly robot-like, might be subject to change

 

I LOVE tegus! I wanted one for a long time, but caring for them is a lot of work and a huge commitment. Plus, not all of them are nice

 

I must confess, I see where @Canas is coming from. Admittedly, I am not as familiar with the broader lore for Seraphon, but I never got much emotion from Lizardmen through the old (and current) battletomes. Even though I enjoy many of the stories in the "Fluff" section, the characters often feel rather humanized. However, even if canon says that Lizardmen/Seraphon are actually emotionless, since they're fictional characters, we can write/develop/imagine them our own ways too.

 

That's real life lizards. There's a real life lizard that's basicly a dog, both in size and behaviour. It looks cool.

Obviously that's different from a fantasy lizardmen/seraphon though

On a more usefull note, a warcry teaser. No idea if it's a good ability, but at least it indicates it's an aggresive warband. And that's a trait they usually share with their parent army.

so I forget if it was here or another thread that we were talkin about the impacts of the coronavirus and the pollical scene around china that may be causing delays, but I just read a verified article that said China was destroying cash/paper money to help contain the virus, so it would seem that it can survive on paper, or at least reasonably be expected to, which would definitely cause a delay on our books coming from that country.

 

But there is no reason for our book to still be in china when the Sons of Behemat battletome has already arrived in other countrys

 

it doesn't have to be in china for there to be concerns. the book could be on the boat stuck at customs in California.

 

uhmm, maybe we can see any new about seraphon or book release date¿?
