Hi Guys i'm the weirdo that never played slann from 5th ed since now ! and I'm lost. There are some much new good stuff for them now. I don't know what to pick. I manage to make this list, what do you think ? Two rules : no Saurus, No Slann -FanG of Sotek- Skink Starpriest 120 (reroll 1 spell) Skink Starpriest 120 (Regular light spell) Skink priest 70 Skink starseer 140 Stegadon chief 270 -FoS Dagger- 40 Skinks 240 40 Skinks 240 10 Skinks 60 5 Cameleons 90 3 salamandres 240 6 Rippers 160 1 Stegadon 240 I'm really tempted to put one 20 guys cameleon unit... I'm not sure to use the batailion StarHost Shadowstrike, i found it really expansive for what it does.
You don't need to replace innate starpriest's spell to take one from the lore. Since you don't run slann, you'll probably want either celestial harmony or tide of serpents on him. Starseer can take additional spell too - probably one of the above, but he will be casting Control Fate mostly, I reckon. Rippers without their Chief are kind of pointless, IMO. Terradons will do better, if you have 20 spare points. If you have nothing to fill points with, they are ok. The point in taking battalion is not always in battalion's effects, but more for deployment control, bonus CP and artefact. Shadowstrike in FoS is great, because you can take any unit to reserves, not only Flyers.
What is weird is that the Ripper/Teradons chiefs are not part of the batailion anymore. Oh that's true i forgot about the extra artefact provided. I was counting on the extra movement from FoS + Starseer abilities to get my Rippers in melee, + extra venom i guess. While teleporting the salamanders next something that i really need to take down. Not sure if mass Skink TP is really something. I saw that 20 Cameleons deals around 11W without any buffs but it's around 360pts for a very squishy unit. While skinks + starpriest deals only 8w for the same prices (but are battlelines).
I like the list. I agree with @Nart that the Rippers are only better than Terradons with a Chief. The idea of a 20x Chameleon Skink unit in FoS is very tempting. I am personally on the fence about wanting to buy 10 more to have 20 as well. Shadowstrike Starhost could be worth it to deepstrike two units of Skinks. You would also get to potentially ambush the Chameleon Skinks. All while still leaving your Lords of Space and Time open for some hunting pack drops; or to move a Skink Support Hero Forward. Lastly, your Skink Chief on Steggadon won't fully benefit from the God Serpent Dagger. The Steggadon counts as a mount. Only the Chief's Meteoric Warspear will trigger it. You are more likely to get it's effect off if you can fit a Ripper Chief into your list and give it to him.
Oh thanks for the feedbacks I also keep struggling to put that bataillion in my list but i'll find a way. Now it looks like this : Skink priest 70 -General- Old and Grizzled Skink Starpriest 120 Skink Starpriest 120 Skink starseer 140 Ripperdactyle chief 80 Stegadon chief 270 -FoS dagger-( or maybe the +1dg +1svg) 40 Skink 240 40 Skink 240 10 Skink 60 1 Stegadon 240 3 salamandres 240 6 Rippers 160 I made some calculation and 20 cameleons are less good than 3 salamanders (mostly because off the 9free bodies and less cost). I expect the ennemy to detroy them before the following run. I know that they could benefit from the juicy counter charge. With only one bonus they could been 3+ save or maybe 2+ to hit (if you really need to destroy that thing). And in term off Wounds, Cameleons deals 11 will salamanders are around 10 for less, and their melee attacks are the same. Is the stegadon that great today or should i remove them... i feel a bit sad for them. I feel like i put too much Leaders in this just to grab some juicy bonuses. Please Help. And i still have 20pts left, maybe 50 if my StegCheif switch to a regular Steg.
Well they just gave us 4 new Heroes out of no where, in addition to that our more basic heroes because necessary...we almost need a leader cap boost or something
What i've done is to change change the Cameleon to a ripperdactyle chief. I think i'll the 2 stegadons because they are great distractions for the army. I'll play like this : - Rippers as horde grinder - Followed by the stegadons, maybe on flanks to grab objectives. - TP the sallies to chew something big (or a buffed skinks blob to deal around 11+11w...) - Keep the big skink blob as counter units to deal with the "unexpected stuff that will fall from the sky". Depending on the deployment, all the mouvement buff and armor will go on the rippers (12+3+3d6 mvt sounds cool traht's around 25" charge), maybe one venom and reroll 1s. The deal is to taunt the oppenent to charge or get close to my stegadon and then unleash venom darts on what came too close.
I just read something on the Fang of Sotek page : It's about the warlord trait : "If Saurus is your gerenal he MUST take this trait..." I understand it like this : - If i take a Saurus chief in a FoS army, he will have this particular trait. - If i take a Skink chief of a Slann they can choose this trait or take the regular ones. What do you think ? Is there somewhere in the book a thing that says something else ?
So Facebook groups are full of english speakers that understand the rules their own way... I'm french i'm suppose to be the one wrong here. I just ask that same question there and i got multiple Time a négative answer with various wording around. For them "only saurus Can and must have this trait"...
It's completely weird. That allégeance is supposer to be skink friendly and they provide a Saurus lors trait... And forbib others to get it with Bad wording... Gw will never learn how to Wright rules.
THey're wrong. THere's NOTHING in FoS that forces you to pick a Saurus as general. It's not stated. the only thing that it's stated is that a Saurus general must have that particular command trait. No one would be able to point a statement in the rules that says that a Saurus MUST be the general for a FoS army. You can easily field a FoS army with no sauri at all, given that is a sub-faction which is all about skinks.
No it's another sloppy wording, it says a Saurus must, it doesnt say any other general that isnt a Saurus cant
So a skink général Can have it too. And a Slann. Thanks i'm not mad. People put to much trust in those army builders.
Weird… but the app may be wrong. RAW in the battletome are the law. the app is made by people that can be wrong because of personal interpretation and no one check.
That's how I'm reading it too, but if you take a Saurus General (why would you?) It MUST have it, doesnt state any other limitations
I don't think a skink can have that particular command trait. IMO it "unlocks" only for a saurus. A Skink general should be able to pick only amongst the "basic" traits for skink. See the difference? THIS is an interpretation of the rule.
To me it looks like you can only pick command traits, that are in the CT table. The FoS trait unlocked only if general is a hero with saurus keyword. Otherwise, you just don't have access to it. I will add this to my FAQ list just in case.
