So, with the new tome out, what is the verdict on the Carnosaur. I cant for the life of me figure out why the oldblood is so muh more expensive than the Scar vet. The scar vet seems like the obvious choice, but maybe there is something im not seeing? So what is your take on this whole debacle?
Why not both? But to answer your question, OB got a missile attack, so in do dmg in 2 Phases, also his CA is awesome (go Saurus!)
Id say it depends on the list, most would want the oldblood for the abilities and range damage. But if you have a battalion that works better with the SV like the Firelance Templehost, then go with it. Or if you have 210 points to spend on a behemoth I'd take the SV lol
With the +1 attack SA, the flat 3 damage of the old bloods spear really shines. It really depends tho. Scar ver is prolly better just on sheer efficiency
Scar vet is 40 points cheaper and basically just as good in melee, so I'd say scar vet, but you might go with both in some lists, like a firelance koatl's claw list. 3 damage spear with 3 attacks at rend -1 vs a 6 attack 2 damage spear with no rend (on the charge) is generally going to be similar damage from the rider, but the latter is better with weapon artefacts. The command abilities math the same on average, but the scar vet command ability is less consistent.
I would start with an oldblood on Carnosaur, for 40 more points your getting a down right terrifying melee weapon. Using blade of realities or some other rend -3 artifact makes it even more ridiculous. It also makes a pretty good lynchpin for any saurus army, as it’s pretty tough and scary to get into the melee with. if you get more carnosaurs, then assemble additional ones as scar veterans, as multiple Oldbloods become redundant
Oldblood's command ability and spear are why he cost 40 points more. ScV has more potential for damage depending on Artefacts though.
IMO, they are balanced pretty good against each other and best work in tandem and more a support heroes for saurus-based armies. But Oldblood is a bit better, it you want to include him as a horde-killer in the skink or beast-centered army. His bonus is more consistant and he still can face other monters, while Scar-Vet simly may miss all jaws attacks (4+ to-hit sucks). Scar-vets CA are nice, of course, but you may just roll too few 6's, if you use it on himself. So, Oldblood is a bit better but costs more. But scarvet is still viable, if you desperately need spare 40 points.
Both get pretty big combat boosts when they are on a Carno, so if you got the points its worth it for either. If taking multiple Scar-Vets are probably better to take additional of just for being 40 points cheaper. Scar-Vet is also probably the most sad off his Carno getting only the Warpick, but the Oldblood kind of just a worse Sunblood when on foot.
Looking at the warscroll builder the Oldblood spear now does D3? I thought it was 3.Ninja nerf instantly? I hope not and it’s just an error...
Warspear, with the right buffs and a sword of judgement it can deal d6 mortal wounds on a 4+ to a hero or monster
