A full unit is 330 pts, it's kroak-level. Sallies are strong, but not that strong. More than 100 pts is excessive, imo.
I feel like that was the point. They were getting a lot of feedback on people spamming 4 units and wanted to make sure that was almost impossible to do.
I believe it is a good change. 2 full packs should feel like an investment and feel like a lot of salamanders, because it is. They were just so cheap before
1 salamander costs 110. 10 less then 20 skinks having 3+ times the durability and 5 times the OB holding capacity. 1 salamander does about 2-6 damage with a 10% chance to do nothing. 3 salamanders cost 330 40 saurus warriors cost 320.... having 4 times the durabilty and doing the same damage as they do unbuffed if you get them in combat(not that hard we reroll charges and teleport) assuming 20-25 are fighting and having just under 4 times the OB holding power. 3 salamanders deal 6-15 damage but average around 10. over all they hit salamanders to hard but what can we do people wouldn't stop crying about them and GW played to the crowed despite there being worse stuff in the game 1 of which just got threw this with a 16% increase not a 37.5% and others that weren't touched at all. this mixed with the .... poorly thought out point changes for other armies makes me thing GW gave no craps and threw this together in a afternoon.
It looks a lot like what they do is mostly profit led, any balance seems to happen as a coincidence. Salamanders from GW are so expensive that people probably weren’t purchasing them. They didn't increase eel points because they sell loads and dont want people to buy less for their list
Skinks dealing more damage than Salamanders is irrelevant to me, at least in Dracothian's Tail. Blobs of 40 Skinks can be shot off or debuffed before they deliver their damage. Salamanders can be thrown down on the table at any given time and deliver their damage without the opponent really being able to do anything. You can easily snipe key units with Salamanders.
that is true of both of them salamanders are easier to shoot off so not a point in their favore and skinks have longer range so they de just as well at sniping
I intend to run only 3 salamanders, probably as a threat elimination type of unit, and also run at least 1 big block of 40 skinks
It is not, because Skinks need to be buffed (which happen in the hero phase) before they do any reasonable damage. Salamanders just work with zero buffs, so they are perfect to be called down at the end of the movement phase, buffed with Volley Fire and then remove whatever threat the enemy had.
40 skinks 240 1 star priest 120 or 360 30 points more then 3 salamanders with all the benefits of a horde unit on top of that. buff them then teleport works fine and can do more then salamanders can. seem fairly interchangeable to me
Typically you arent just teleporting 3 Salamanders. It is also much more difficult to teleport and fit 40 Skinks with a 9" restriction than 3 Salamanders and 9 Handlers. With Dracothian's Tail you can deploy multiple Salamanders within a 18" radius which makes it much easier and better overall. Like, 40 Skinks are good and deal a lot of damage, but they wont be dethroning Salamanders anytime soon.
your not going to be fitting more then 3-6 salamanders in a list any more thats 660+240 for slann so 900 points for a deep strike that requires you to put your CP battery on the front line and only does 12-30 damage. thats 6-15 phoenix guard or ard boys or 60-180 points of skinks the most you could muster is slann 240 3x10 skinks 180 and 13 ish salamanders but that is all your doing
What about razordons. They are still as good as they have always been. Now they are cheaper than salamanders do you see yourselves taking them again?
Kroak Astrolith Priest Starpriest 40 skinks 40 skinks 5 guard 3 sallies 3 sallies Balewind Extra CP What I've been running. Why have one or the other when you can have both? Gives you a ton of flexibility, movement, and damage. Sallies benefit is they require almost nothing else to be effective. Gives you so much flexibility in deployment and your ability to take the alpha.
Itll be changed. Dreadsaurian was in the GHB with the rest of the forgeworld stuff at the old points and since it wasn't updated with the seraphon errata people assume he's staying at the ghb printed points.
As is we also lost our ability to ally in Sylvaneth units. They were allies in our battletome but the GHB only mentions Stormcast.
