I'm a noob to Seraphon but ran 3x full Salamander Hunting Packs in a game last night along with a Firelance Starhost (because I don't have enough Skinks) using the old points as a last hurrah. I had never run them before. But after my turn 1 of shooting, both my opponent and I agreed that I could entirely drop the Battalion and put those points into the Hunting Packs and it would be a very fair trade-off still.
But why do you think it warrants a change? It’s not like we’re seeing masses of them on the tabletop is it.
the new Rumour Engine; a gun end, looks a bit like Adeptus Mechanicus. might as well be something black fortress... also check out the Rumour Engine 2020 thread Grrr, Imrahil
Because paying a little over 10 points a wound on a monster that can reduce damage by 1, ignore spells, and do d6 mortal wounds on a charge is straight insanity. His damage can also spike massively, but thats kind of irrelevant.
Yes, but how much is he seen in lists or are there better options... i.e does it being at 420 (which it was in GHB 2019 as well) really make a difference in competitive play. I'm going to say no. Of the Monstrous Arcanum changes only 1 increased, the Rogue Idol, all the rest were decreases in point costs. I'd say it's likely that they'll want to encourage playing with the FW stuff while they're still available not marginalise them. I'd expect if we do see any increase in the Dread Saurian it'll be minimal.
Obviously I think the answer is yes. Thats why I said something in the first place. There isn't a monster with that kind of woind efficiency in the game. And you can heal him with the slann! It's a massive bundle of wounds on an absolutely monstrous base thats going to be the perfect answer to "how do I stop my opponent from leaving my bastiladons alone?" If it stayed at 420 you'd 100% see him in competitive lists. You can give him plus 1 save, heal him, and give him fly from spellcasters that can easily be on +2. I'm surprised more people don't realize that's problematic.
this is disingenuous.... he was 420 when he was 16 wounds. the bump to 510 occurred after. comparing ghb19 to ghb20 is not a fair comparative, and saying well it makes sense because it was 420 then too is also disingenuous. the DS current warscroll at 510 is reasonable IMO. his old scroll at 420 was cost prohibitive.. he was too easily killed before he did anything... but having more than 4x the survivability (yeah I said it 4 TIMES!!!!) at that same point cost (420) is a bit more than problematic.... its downright oppressive. and if your wondering where I got the 4x survivability from, he went from 16 to 35 wounds which is over 2x and coalesced (which is where you would see him most) cuts damage from the things that would actually hunt him in half for another 2x modifier)
Exactly. Give me a break, this is just ridiculous. How often was this warscroll taken pre ghb19? Well, never because this warscroll didn't exist then. If you had given the old warscroll an extra 20 wounds, yeah he probably would have been taken. I genuinely can't even believe that was a serious statement.
All you're working on is conjecture and supposition. You have no empirical or demonstrable fact. The only fact is that it's 420pts in the GHB2020 and until it changes that's what it is. So stop moaning.
ok now if @Grotpunter also agrees with me, then I will have proof that hell as frozen over lmao. or that this POV was that far out there lol
except the points after the warscroll got updated to the current one WERE officially 510... that's a fact, not conjecture.
yes I am an obstinate PITA for sure lol. but always backed with fact and LOGIC. welcome to the forums, I sincerely hope you know that while I can be disagreeable, ill always extend the same respect im given and never make it personal. fiery discussions make the world go round...
Since when has anything GW done ever been logical? We'll just have to wait and see. Out of interest, how regularly are the FW points costs updated?
when they feel like it, and usually a little after the release of a new edition, or a significant change in rules/stats to a unit they make
