Workstation is filled with orks at the moment, but the lootas are almost done: From the kill team kit I was able to pull off 15 models: 5 burnas and 10 lootas. Also have two rocket boyz over on the side but I need to find/fabricate some new bases for them before they can be finished.
...well that wasn't supposed to double post. If I finish my lootas soon I will post them instead A FEW HOURS LATER: Lootas now complete! Here is the mek: These two fit in real well with my previously made Savage Ork lootas: Total I now have 15 Lootas: And here is the whole lot of burnas, lootas, and nobs recently rebased!
Updated and fixed the previous post; also a small preview of what is to come Spoiler: gondola Paper Test 1: Test 2:
I went with the second template. I wanted six sections, and the first one, while it was a bit thicker, I could only easily fit five. Some foam, string, and superglue later and now we have a zeppelin-looking zeppelin! Also here is the base, using some Necromunda tiles I bought ages ago but never painted. I want to use them for actual terrain projects at some point but the plastic is so strong it will work perfect in holding this guy up: Behold, the Hindenbork! Since it is a transport I wanted some orky models to fit on the sides if I wanted, looks like they will be able too! And it looks great next to my triplanes! This thing will wind up being a chinork warkopta, just modelled as a zeppelin instead. Helicopters seem too advanced flying next to triplanes
Work continues on the zeppelin! It looks fantastic with a nice black basecoat: Spoiler: moar pics Painting has also commenced, and I am loving this project!
The Hindenbork (II) is now complete! Or at least complete enough for me for now, I still have work I could do on the base but will save most of it for later. Spoiler: fluff blurb The original Hindenbork airship was an unmitigated disaster. No sooner had the crazed mek-contraption been launched into the sky then it exploded into a tremendous fireball of flammable gas. Had this been any other species of the 40K universe, the project would have been cancelled, and airships would have been replaced by other, safer methods of transportation. ...the Orks meanwhile had the opposite reaction. Convinced by the resounding success of creating a giant explosion (with the added potential of use as a transport), the meks quickly were flooded with orders to create more airships. Soon a second prototype was launched, christened as the Hindenbork (II), now the pride and joy of the flyboyz of the Luftwaaaagh! Here is the gondola: Spoiler: gondola with crew prior to glueing The crew are a single ork gunner from the trukk kit, and three gnoblars from the WHF Ogres line. I got a bunch of bits of them way back for this project and am finally putting them to use! Painting the details on this vehicle was tons of fun. Side view of the crew: Ork gunner with his big shoota: You can see the "killcountas" etched into the side of the balloon: Back of the airship: Rear gobbo crewmember with improvised rokkit launcha!
Also got two Rokkit boyz complete: The nice thing about the zeppelin is I can place three orks from the unit being transported on the sides or the back of the craft!
Nothing but praise for this marvelous creation! I love te use of parts and you captured a good Ork feel to the zeppelin. Jeep up the good work Grrr, Imrahil
You should have painted it as the Borking Meme Dog: (Only joking, it looks great as it is and painting it as a white fluffy canine would have rather reduced the Orkyness of the whole thing ) That’s the Orks down to a tee I was wondering if Gnoblars would make good Gretchin as I was concerned they might have been too spindly, but given yours seem to fit right in I’m now convinced they would work very well. What a brilliantly Orky idea all round - are you going to use your Luftwaaagh in actual 40K games or is it just a painting project?
Thanks! The gnoblars were the cheapest option for me; I got a batch of them for under $15 on a bits bargain website. But I agree, they fit in really well with minor conversions. Mostly I wanted the dudes with the steering wheel. Right now it is strictly a painting project, as I haven't played a game of 40K since the days of my Battle for Maccrage box set. But if I ever do play one with my orks I hope to run the zeppelin as a chinork warkopta conversion. It fits the theme of the Luftwaaaagh really well. I want to work up the force so that there are very few footsloggers in the army; if each group of orks has a warkopta/zeppelin it would make them very fast and unique. Plus the heart of the army would be the deffkopta/triplanes zipping around. Oh and the stormboyz of course. A bunch of flyers/flying and fast-moving vehicles would be very characterful! Not sure how competitive it would be given the current edition? (I think 8th is about to be replaced by 9th right? Has that happened already?). I know huge blobs of orks is very competitive in 8th edition but I don't want to paint that many infantry, the transport option would be much more fun. And I don't want to have a ton of ork trukks and battlewagons. They are cool and all, but I wanted something unique
I affixed a small bit to the back of the zeppelin from my Maelstrom's Edge box set (another project for the future I am afraid ). I think it looks a lot better: And the next small batch of orks is now in the works: some savage burna boyz! ...along with two tribal guardians: And here is a mask color-scheme test I drew up real quick this morning:
Those chaps and the masks on all of them look great, but what are you going to use the tribal guardians as in 40K? The only thing I can think of that they’d even remotely match would be Nobz, but what would the spears represent in the 40K Ork Roster? Choppas? Big Choppas?
Nope, the two with the spears are actually just for Mordheim. I have used a few of my extra savage orc bodies to make a small warband (used them in my last battle report), these will be the latest addition. In fact these two were test minis to make sure I was happy with the masks. I may make a full squad of snakebite boyz at some point, but I would need to buy another box of savage orcs first.
