Foolish Scalenex, thinking he could say the word "animation" and not stipulate specifically "western animation" on a thread about a western pop culture character with asides to other western comics and western live action movies and western TV shows.

It's important to say "western" every time lest you offend anime fans who migrate here from one of the other threads.

After all, Batman Ninja is a full fledged anime and you, Scalenex is the only person on Earth who likes it.

I would like to argue that I tolerate that movie, maybe even like it as I’m way to emotionally invested in that specific dc animated movie series, and we own Batman Ninja on DVD.

Even the mighty 6-time Slann is not a mind reader (yet). As a master of the writing craft, I'd think the accuracy of ones words would be of paramount importance. Especially as anime (of which Avatar is a VERY watered-down westernized version of anime) and western animation is quite an arbitrary one.

Aside from that, here are my purely subjective picks for the top animated (western and anime) tv shows...

    1. Avatar: The Last Airbender
    2. Samurai Jack
    3. X-men: The Animated Series
    4. Gargoyles
    5. Batman: The Animated Series

Is there a streaming service where Avatar may be binged watched? I have only heard good things about Avatar (the cartoon, not the James Cameron movie)

I have trouble objectively ranking my favorites do to recency effect. My top three are Young Justice, Gargoyles, and Batman the Animated Series, in that order. At least for how much I enjoy watching them but Gargoyles and BTAS may be timeless. Gargoyles season 3 was garbage except for the first episode. Because Disney kicked out Greg Wiesman and he only did the first episode. He released a series of comics which was the real season 3. BTAS last season was a step down, but it was only a small step down. It was still watcheable.

I'd probably make X-Men the Animated Series #4 and HBO's Spawn #5 or maybe put Justice League in the #5 spot.

I like South Park but it's not enthralling like adventure cartoons. I like Wolverine and the X-Men but it's not quite as good as X-Men the animated series. If they didn't cut it off at once season it might have lived up to it's predecessor.

I liked Samurai Jack a lot but I don't like re-watching it the way I like re-watching the other stuff on my honorable mention list.

Honorable mention to Batman Beyond too. I will admit that season one was a masterpiece but season 2 and 3 were not as good.

    It's currently on Netflix.

I never count the last season of Gargoyles when discussing the show, it was a huge step down in terms of quality and story telling. (the same thing goes for X-men the animated series).

I'd pay to see that. Also, keeping in mind that in several universes Alfred is ex-MI6 spy personnel so he has the necessary back ground...

Would have had to happen when he was younger though.

Makes sense. In the Flashpoint Universe where Dr. Thomas Wayne became Batman, he started being Batman less than a year after Bruce's death.

If you just want to see Thomas Wayne Batman, skip to 8:07.

I imagine if Alfred took up "the mission" he would not rely on theatricality as much as Bruce or Thomas did. Alfred is more subtle in personality. MI6 likes to be subtle. He might wear a costume just in case he's spotted but Bat-Alfred would probably avoid being seen altogether and his costume would be more subtle than any other version of Batman seen. Also, even a younger Alfred would still be older than Bruce Wayne Batman so he'd probably be less willing to get in direct fisticuffs.

I would have few if any costumed villains but a lot more mobster type villains. Maybe I would add a side plot where Alfred is left the Wayne estate but there is a highly corrupt member on the board of Wayne Enterprises that is trying to seize the company from him. Overtime this corrupt corporate officer becomes deeper and deeper entrenched with the criminal element until he essentially becomes a super villain. Maybe give this villain a last name in common with one of Batman's traditional foes (Nigma, Friez, Krane, Napier, Cobblepot, Kyle, Eisley, Quinnzel, etc.)

He'd probably kill really bad people assassin style. If they weren't really bad, he'd probably knock criminals unconscious and leave them at police stations with a pile of incriminating evidence.

Hypothetically, if I was writing a Bat-Alfred comic. This would go on for a while before Bat-Alfred realizes the criminals he's not killing are being let go scot-free. Alfred would have a moral crisis of whether he should let execute the petty criminals or not. After some soul searching Alfred than uses his espionage skills to purge Gotham PD and the judiciary of the corrupt individuals that let criminals go free.

Any Gotham without Bruce Wayne in it should be crappier than regular Gotham, so this is probably a physic victory. The power vacuum in Gotham PD may lead to fewer blatantly corrupt cops but the police are undermanned and underfunded so crime doesn't really get any better. I may or may not have James Gordon die here for shock value.

After decades of fighting crime from the shadows, Alfred is beginning to slow down from age and is losing hope. I would end the comic with Alfred adopting a young idealistic orphan named Dick Grayson. Possibly adopting an orphaned Barbara Gordon too or maybe just becoming her mentor. Thus implying that Alfred could have some young proteges to continue the fight.

I signed up for DC Universe because they were the sole source of Young Justice and I am a hopeless fanboy for Young Justice. I also wanted to watch older stuff for nostalgia and completionist reasons. They were not as complete as they originally sold to me in the adverstising.

The hundreds of comic book PDFs was enough to convince me that I didn't throw away my money.

They have some other exclusive properties, and they have run the gamut from uninteresting to moderately watchable. I had high hopes for the live action Teen Titans remake but I just lost interest. It was trying too hard to be edgy and Raven was the only character who actor or actress wasn't subpar in my opinion. You know how classic Noir movies put a grey tint on things and the Matrix put a green tint on everything? Well Titans has a blue tint. And it mahrlect bugs me. Who thought it was a good idea to make it blue? What was their reasoning. I'd love to know.

No dumpster fires in the other shows, but I haven't been super impressed with their shows that were not Young Justice.

Until Stargirl. Season One's finale was just released a few hours ago. It's a good show. Not perfect, but I enjoyed the mix of dark and light moments and the characterization. The sound track is weird. I will probably watch all 13 episodes in a row again at some point. Me wanting to rewatch something is not something I often say about recent shows.

Because DC Universe and HBO Max are owned by the same parent company, I got a discount on my first three months of HBO Max. I noticed a few former exclusives of DC Universe are trickling to HBO Max. I predict everything is going there eventually, minus the comic books.
