I firmly believe that GW had a few options on the table in the form of end times, AOS and a 9th edition ruleset etc.. There’s a few rules in our army book that contradict the BRB and I believe they were paving the way for a new edition, tiktaqto has one, Lord Kroak has some grey areas, predatory fighter at least needed an FAQ. What are your thoughts?
If GW had been planning to create a 9th Edition alongside End Times and AoS, surely they would have told us that earlier? As it is they only told us about TOW last year, that Forge World would take over new miniatures production and that it would take it years to complete. If they had definitely released a 9th Edition beta around the same time and End Times and AoS, the full 9th Edition would have arrived ages ago.
Unfortunately, I agree with @Lord Agragax of Lunaxoatl At the end of the day, GW is a business and they would not have paid for a ruleset to be started when they were developing AoS as, basically, an entirely new game. Corrobating this, is the fact that they are saying it will take years to bring out TOW. If they already had something brewing I believe it would not be taking them so long.
Bah you're probably right. Just seemed odd, I don't know of any other army book that has as many mistakes in it as ours does. Could it just be it was written by a dinosaur loving 12 year old?
No, you can be sure it wasn't otherwise the Dinosaur loving 12 year old wouldn't have made the Carnosaur as it is, they would have made ALL of the dinosaurs far better than they are. It's one of the things that really irks me about Lizardmen, the dinosaurs are pretty expensive in points but you have to be really careful with the Stegadons that they don't get nerfed, Terror was neutered in 8th edition, Carnosaur are "apex predators" but with their mahlect WS means they hit basically nothing and lose to combat resolution unless they are in combat with an infantry unit, same with Bastiladons and the Trogoldon is, frankly, a joke. I still love the Dino's I just wish they were a little more powerful. (and that we had some decent long-ranged ballistics [sighs] ah well)
I thought Terror was pretty much the same in both 7th and 8th - take a Leadership test when charged and run away if you fail.
You're thinking 6th edition. In 8th edition fear and terror are almost useless. A bit too strong in previous editions but without it Tomb Kings esp are really weak.
I play 8th edition and we use the etc updated rules, giving us a few advantages. The spell of kroak has 360° view and so does the engine of the gods (even for enemy units in CC). The PF rule is downgraded as it clearly states, the second rank doesn't benefit from this.
